@Noctu: once you are approved for the Advance account, the switch is a fairly simple process, no questions asked, just 'what is your old sort code and acct' and 'here's a 10-page document you neeed to read, about the terms of the switch. They give you a switch date and that's it.

I applied for the Advance account on 5th July online. Received a letter today dated dated 15th July that says...

"Thank you for your recent request. Unfortunately, the product you have requested is currently out of stock. There will, therefore, be a short delay before I can fulfil your request. I apologise for the delay, but can assure you that the product will be sent to you as soon as possible".

    What?

    What?

They're the first bank to run out of accounts :rotfl:

It'll be the Advance account booklet that will be out of stock. An application seems to generate a request for a booklet and so you get a letter saying 'thank you for your request request for a booklet' etc.

After enquiring by phone it seems that the letter that I received saying the product is out of stock is code for "you have been accepted".

Looks like we will have to learn HSBC language. Anyone know of any classes?

Yes, it does - putting money into an previous year's cash ISA is effectively considered as you opening/using your cash ISA this year.

One exception - You could still open a new cash ISA this year but only its its used to transfer an previous years ISA in (not for any new money)

    Regards
    Sunil

You can also open a S&S ISA as well as a cash ISA every year. I just need to make sure that I leave enough space in the S&S ISA to cover the amount paid into HSBC to get the £10 per month.

Still waiting to hear if I've been accepted for the account though.

I called them again Today. Apparently someone removed the "memo" to complete the account process but didn't actually complete it =/
someone's supposed to be calling me later to confirm they have all the documents they need to send my card etc

Just a quick update on my 1 previous posting re progress, which been OK online, with subsequent approval.
Today received debit card and went thro telephone process of arranging switch from a dormant Tesco current a/c. A lengthy process but I received nothing but courtesy and full assistance from the operator. Including an unprompted ring back when phone battery went dead and then again to my mobile when it happened again. Switch process completed easily. Internet registration also completed in same cal and then on line application for Credit card successful afterwards. Have to speak as you find but obviously I'm one of the very lucky ones!. Wife's application also previously approved, just waiting for debit card to arrive and then repeat the process.
Tried to open the Cash Isa but it appears that the initial deposit has to be made from the advance a/c, which I have not yet funded. Is this correct?
Had better service from HSBC than many other institutions of late.

Has anyone managed to close an existing current account and then open an Advance account?

I have the basic HSBC current account, my Noddle score is 3/5, 583 which on their scale is just below fair . But I haven't been rejected for any current accounts so far.
Can Noddle credit scoring be trusted?

Well I got the rejection letter today. My Noddle score is the same as Mosler's and, like him/her, I have never been rejected for a current account.

The letter does mention that I did not meet their required internal scoring for the account so my guess is that its because my salary is less than £1,750 per month required to be banked. There was no space that I could see on the application for putting that I had income from other sources - i.e. other bank accounts.

I have booked an appointment at my local branch at 9:30 on Saturday 1st August. Have to take along photo ID and proof of address.

Has anyone on here managed to successfully appeal a rejection?
