  • Applied online and was sent a form to sign over a week later. Really unsure if they are processing my application for advance current account. i posted back that signed form on 16 july but haven't heard anything since, no email confirmation, what should i do? what number is best to ring?
So I called them and had a long wait until someone with a very strong Scottish accent picked up. Unfortunately my ears and brain do not work with the thick accent, and found it very hard to follow what she was saying, she was kind and slowed down her speech for me. So she set me up with telephone banking and said that this allowed me to set myself up with internet banking too. I enquired why my card isn't here and she said did i want a card i said yes, she said where is your local branch and i told her, she said it will arrive at that branch in 6 days.

So I will have to take ID to pick my card up in branch. I had to hold on the line to be put through to Switching person, I must have had to hold on for over 5minutes. He read a lot of bumph, needed 16 digits on card, sort code and account number of the account i want to switch from. He will send me papers to read and then ring me back after 4 days to make sure i want to ahead with the switch.

I will take my application form for loyality isa that I printed and filled in for part external transfer from a previous years subscription. I also noticed that my email address seems to be wrong on online banking so will ask if they can change it. I still haven't got my security key to do that myself but have applied online for one.

Small trouble for £240..all worth it.
  • I applied last Sunday and received a successful letter through the post this morning. Interestingly I do earn over the £1750 required to fund the account, but that money currently goes directly into First Direct.

I am assuming I will be able to apply for the save together ISA once I am all set up with HSBC as I couldn't see a way of signing up at the same time when I applied unless I missed something.
If you have online banking set up you should be able to log in and then go to savings on the left side of screen, see what account you would like to apply for and fill in application. If it is for thisyears subscription it can be done online, but for me, I wanted to transfer from and old subscribed account a lump sum of £300 so had to fill in paperwork-which I printed and filled in. Will take to branch when I collect my HSBC card, save a postage stamp.

Yes this years subscription. Being saving in my TSB accounts and hadn't planned on opening an ISA.

    Hi,

I too have my salary paid into First Direct, which I am keeping. I have a TSB and HSBC applied on same day, as soon as I have got the TSB £100, I am moving it across to HSBC and using it as a Direct Debit Account only - will have to recycle the money to make sure its 1750 per month going through the account. I presume they accept income from FD as external funds?!

My only concern is they have linked my old HSBC sign on details for Internet Banking from a couple of years ago - I hope this link to an old Advance account doesn't impact my switch offer!

I am quite please with what they have provided though - instant £2500 overdraft (although my First Direct overdraft is £3000)

    Hello,

I somehow managed to get the Advance account (applied online and finished opening it in branch) and also the ISA +Credit card, all for the cash incentives.
I now need to finish the switch: I am planning to do this from a Co-op account that I hardly ever used. There are no DD/ S/O set up on that account and I wonder if this will be a problem when phoning for the switch. Also, do I need to close the account?

    Thanks everyone.

There's no reference to a requirement for DDs or SOs being a prerequisite but switching nothing at all might be pushing things a bit!
Also, do I need to close the account?
The switch needs to be done via the Current Account Switching Service, which automatically closes the account being switched as part of the process.
  • I switched nothing at all...... empty Clydesdale...... and all seemed to go smoothly. Just waiting for the incentive now.......and my first tenner for the first ISA payment!!

Just for fun, I applied for a second HSBC Advance about a month ago, to add to the one I have held for about a year. They initially sent me a letter thanking me for my inquiry, the leaflet with the switching offer, and suggested I visit a Branch if I have more questions. I thought that's their way of telling me I cannot have a second Advance account.

But then they sent me another letter, asking for a signature specimen and said that was all they needed to open the account. Today, I received my debit card, and the new account is now showing in my internet banking.

I suppose I might as well switch an account into that new Advance now, and meet the other conditions, to see what happens. If I am lucky, they pay me £120. No sweat if they don't as I am sure the account will come in useful for switching to somewhere else at some stage.
