Appreciate it if you could post your finding re new supplier here.

Hi again ... just recently received an e-mail from BT: "To keep bringing you our best products, we do have to change our prices sometimes. So, from 20 September 2015, line rental is going up by £1 per month."

    'Sometimes' ?

So I've looked at the main options (Which ? 'best buys') and Plusnet Unlimited Fibre (76Mbs/19Mbs) & Anytime Calls is current favourite. HTH

Looks like LRS will be £194.28.

    This is getting ridiculous.

It's a bit cheeky not to state the LRS price rise to £194.28, on the webpage that BT included in their e-mail:

    http://www.bt.com/static/wa/account/pricechanges/vision.html?module=FURL_J-A1-C-E&s_cid=con_FURL_pricechanges&s_cid=con_email_Ogilvy_270715_3197_EM003_details

However, they did roll out the last LRS price rise very quietly on a Sunday without telling anyone. So I guess this is the sneaky behaviour that customers should get used to from BT.

Looking at the deals in the 'Haggle Down Prices' thread, maybe Sky's decision to get rid of their one-off line rental payment wasn't a bad thing, for their customers. At least it gives Sky the scope to heavily discount the price of monthly line rental, if customers phone up Sky Retentions at the end of their contracts.

Agreed. Mind you, I've yet to receive the email!

Where do you get off thinking you should pay only £160 when others have to pay £204? A 21% discount was ridiculously high and unjustifiable considering they would still have to bill and chase for quarterly calls usage anyway.

You should be happy you received an unfair break for years rather than be upset that it is being removed.

Hope this is "tongue in cheek" ? If not, bit OTT on a money saving site:eek:

BT wholesale price for a land line is £8 / month. Why can't I buy that off them (BT Openreach) for that price and buy the broadband separate.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

FYI: Within 24 hours of me instructing PlusNet to proceed, BT have e-mailed a message noting:

"As you're moving before the end of your contract, you'll need to pay a charge for each month left of your minimum term. We expect this to be £135.99 by the time you move."

... contrary to Ofcom's guidance (and what BT said in their recent e-mail message regarding the line rental price increase in September):

Ofcom - Protection for consumers against unexpected mid-contract price rises 22 January 2014
    http://media.ofcom.org.uk/news/2014/protection-for-consumers-against-unexpected-mid-contract-price-rises/

Update #1: Just had an automated call from BT reminding me about the outstanding termination payment and subsequently had a discussion with someone from BT sales.

Apparently the charge is by virtue of *transferring* the service rather than *cancelling* (which doesn't attract the termination charge).

I had intended to carry on with BT Premium Mail Subscription (£1.60/month), so that we could continue with the same e-mail addresses to keep life simple.

BT offered a comparable package to PlusNet but it still works out at £60 pa extra.

Update #2: Ofcom have advised that they draw no distinction between the processes of transferring and cancelling, so an early termination penalty should not apply. Ofcom suggested that I relay this opinion to BT (done).
