Where do BT get off hiking Line saver 17%?

I paid £159 for line rental saver last July. I have just received a renewal notice for £183!!
This is a hike of 17 times the rate of inflation. How do they get away with this?? What is Ofcom doing?

TalkTalk went from £114 to £180 so no longer worth while paying in advance when you take into account a now 10% (was 15%) discount for paid early monthly payments

Fortunately its relatively straightforward to change your supplier. If they hike prices too much you don't need OFCOM to fight your battles for you, just take your business elsewhere.

LRS is a discount on standard line rental, so BT's take on this will simply be that they're reducing the discount offered... quite why you think OFCOM would be interested in that escapes me.
All providers offering LRS or the equivalent have cut the discount, while Sky have ceased to offer it at all-presumably because the uptake has been higher than expected.

Plusnet have done the same; up from £155.88 currently to £185.88 from Sept!! Saving is now only £18 per annum over monthly fee.
Suppose its only a matter of time before all of the telcos. phase out ALR as per Sky.

They can raise the price as they can get away with it.

Besides everybody has got to pay for the football, even if they don't want to.

Yep, mine was due for renewal next month so just renewed again before the price goes up. The increase is outrageous. All to pay for that damn football.

I've renewed mine as well at the current price.Worth me doing it, because I get free weekend and evening calls included as its a "legacy" product , but for a new subscriber its rapidly losing its appeal, effectively only a ~ 9% discount for upfront payment, when a few years ago it was more like 25%.

Actually I think OFCOM *should* be interested - particularly if all providers follow suit - because the practice could be seen as exploiting consumers. By the way I think the way you've phrased your comment is needlessly rude to the OP.
