hayley11,
Maybe some people, who don't post too often in some forums, just feel annoyed enough to do so because of their experience with Setanta?
There's another thread here regarding peoples' issues with Setanta:

There are several press articles:

my husband has spent the last few months trying to cancel with this company! He joined up online through one of their offers any wasnt given any account information so when he wanted to cancel he cancelled his direct debit. We received a few phone calls from them but while he was at work, eventually they did call when he was home and asked him to bring his account up to date as he had cancled at the wrong time, so he gave his card details so they could take a final payment. They then continued to take monthly payments from his card despite him telling them over the phone he was cancelling. He sent emails to them asking to cancel to be told he cant do it by email, called them many many times and when eventually got to speak to someone and aparently passed through to the cancellations dept he was told that you cannot cancel over the phone! he sent letters to be then told he was sending them to the wrong address when it was given to him by their customer services! In the end, he got in touch with his bank and has had his debit card canclled and changed for a new one which does seem to have worked, they were unable to take a payment last month due to this, he sent letters recorded delivery to all of their addresses he could find and finally a couple of weeks ago we had a phone call while he was at work saying they would like to speak to him about a refund, but they have failed to call back when he has been home, then last week we received a letter from them asking for more money as they wernt able to take a payment last month!!
All I can say is, dont deal with this company, they make it very difficult to cancel with them and will comtinue taking money from your account0 -

I too have had problems with this company, they should wear black masks and stripped shirts.
I set up my account last year with an offer from the sun, only i forgot to put in the promo code, i rang and was told there was nothing i could do so i gave 30 days notice to cancel.
I then set up the promotion on another viewing card this time entering the promo code. great i got free set up and free setanta for 3 month, i then tried moving the package to my origional viewing card but was told i could not as i had already used it and cancelled. and that the only way to get my service was to cancel my subscription to my present viewing card then resubscribe to my old viewing card but would have to pay the connection fee.
I told them to cancel the whole package then, but they put me on hold and a 'supervisor' came on and said she was sorry i wanted to cancel. i explained the reason why, she appologised i had been told that and said she would give me a reduced subscription for 3 months and my subscription would be moved to my origional card. I did get the reduction but my package stayed on the second viewing card which is upstairs in the bedroom, the origional is in the lounge hence my eagerness to change back.
So i telephoned to cancel again, this time i was asked numerous pointless questions on what sport i like who i like, etc only to be told i needed transfering to another department to commence the cancellation procedure...........there is no cancellation procedure, after being put on hold i was then quizzed again as to why i wanted to cancel and what sports i watch etc, then told i could not cancel by phone but have to put it in writing.
I dread to think what my phone bill will be. i was also informed it is now 60 days notice that has to be given ........previously it was 30 days notice. I have recieved nothing in writing to inform me this change was taking place but the fool on the phone told me this time period had been in place for 4 months. I will be seeking legal advice regards this as i am sure they should have sent me something in writting. SO Setanta is not a NO CONTRACT channel as they claim it clearly is a contract or there would be no cancellation period, let alone a doubled cancellation period. I would not recommend anyone subscribe to this cowboy outfit, save your time, money and trouble and go to the pub to watch football.:mad:0 -
I called them 08703200024. they f**king talked and kept me on hold for 5 mins plus b4 transferring me to cancellation dept. Then i put a request for cancellation(June end). They said send a letter to that effect. I did that .. a month later (July End) found another hit on my credit card for 13 £ .. Called them to check and they say they havent recd the letter .. i say !!!!!! .. not my problem ... cancel it right now .. and they say Nope we need letter "Clause XXX of contract".
I ask them, you can subscribe to setanta on WEB or Telephone instantly .. using the fastest medium of communication, so why should cancellation be done by post using slowest means of communication. May aswell ask people to personally deliver the cancellation requests in the deepest corner of the country as a cancellation policy ...that would be slower / costlier than post.
No answer there. (the guy smiles - surely he likes my joke as i pay him to listen to it).
I decide to forget this & send them another letter. A month later another hit of 13 £. This time i call (August end) and they say they have recd the letter but they will calculate 60 days from the day the letter was recd and as per their calculation my a/c will be cancelled on October 18th !!!!
Now i was livid ... I ask them what makes them think I will pay them another two months for the service i dont even have.... they say they dont care if i have the service or not, but the last payment will be in October.
Hey whoo ... this will be the first company I am filing a case against... Not leaving these people with easy money ...
Dont know which Slum lord won a lottrey and became a stakeholder in this company, but this company is all about ripping off money ... Beware DONT JOIN SETANTA ... EVER ..NOT EVEN BY MISTAKE .. .0 -
Seems like everyone is having trouble with Setanta
I actually work for a Setanta call centre, if anyone has any problems and you want to talk to me to try and talk through/sort it out, i can do my best to help out...obviously for privacy i wont be able to give out my name....but if anyone needs help with their subscription or trying to cancel and feel like they are just banging their head against a brick wall talk to me and i can help you out/advise you0 -

I cancelled by letter posted 22.10.07 having been refused cancellation by email.
I emailed on 9.11.07 to find out if the letter had been received and was advised that there was a backlog of correspondence they were dealing with.
My effective date is 15 December and my direct debit has been cancelled so they will not receive any more money
I'm a ROI subscriber to these cowboys.I subscribed by phone with credit card and was connected within 15 mins on a very adhoc basis.I was given no info on cancellation criteria whatsoever.I rang to cancel, got through and was told to email which I did.Within 3 days I receive my first ever communication from them, thanking me for continuing to subscribe to Setanta and boasting about "forthcoming attractions",namely a raft of world cup qualifiers ,all of which finished up weeks ago. They have taken another payment even though I did not sign up to their 30 day notice.0 -
I dont know about you guys but I got nailed by this guy called Dhaliwal. Apparently his mama has bought shares in Santa and Banta sports and he is calling up trying to get people onto 2 months free and then clocks the commission from his call centre
The estate agency is just a front, they have a large satellite dish beaming the football to the Asian community in Kent, Ilford and Southall.
Be careful:T0 -
