given a gift but telling people you bought it.

If someone bought you a gift for a birthday, would you tell your friends you bought it for yourself?

I'm a bit annoyed at this, but really don't think I should be as it wasn't given to get recognition from his friends, so trying to figure out what it is I'm annoyed at really.....

Maybe I need a coffee....
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I'd suggest two coffee's and think to yourself what a wonderful life.

I'd probably let them buy their own gift next time but just put it down to "sometimes people are just plain weird" and have another coffee.

I have no idea if I would feel annoyed, but it would change how I saw them: if they can casually lie about something like that, when they would know you know the truth, what else is fake in their life?

They either like it that much that they want to take credit for finding this wonderful item, or, for some reason they don't want people to know that you bought them it? Although I don't see why it would be the latter, and more likely to be the former....or a totally different reason altogether! Whatever, it's quite a strange thing to do!

Agreed, it's a really odd thing to do!

Sounds like they don't want people to know about the relationship.

I'd be proud to let people know it was a gift, especially if it was so nice that I wished I'd bought it myself.

    But that's just me.

I was seeing a guy who had children a few-quite a few years ago. I bought each child a present for Christmas-not cheap rubbish either. I carefully wrapped them and put labels on them all.
He put them under the Christmas tree-but not before taking the tags off and putting them in the bin.
I asked why he did this and he made some lame excuse.
I saw one of his daughters a couple of days after Christmas and apparently daddy had bought them some lovely presents-the ones I bought - and they hadn't got anything from me.
We finished shortly afterwards, I then found out he actually had a girlfriend who he later married-poor woman.

So I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want people to know about you.
