The best part of this, is that buying the reduced items, you are actually doing the store a favour!
If these stores are anything like my store, they will get reprimanded for high wastage if the reduced items do not sell!!...If you buy them, they do not go on the daily or weekly wastage..therefore it is better for them if they DO sell.

As I pushed my trolley nearer another shopper came up and said to her (the worker) 'they're like vulture's aren't they', to which the worker replied 'It's awful I hate doing this part of the job, I really hate it and yes I know what you mean', then gave me a shifty sideways look again.

Anyway when I got to the tills 2 lovely workers helped me pack and actually congratulated me on getting so many bargains. I mentioned the above and they were really shocked, however as the 'Vulture' comment came from a shopper not connected with the supermarket I didn't feel there was much I could do.

But I'm left feeling quite upset about this, I felt humiliated by those two and their comments.

I believe the OP's initial issue (quoted above) is being overlooked here. The experience in this store left her feeling upset and humiliated. Now if I were the store manager I would not want this to be the case, regardless of whoever instigated the 'vulture' comment, the member of staff could have kept their mouth shut, or defended the OP with something like 'oh, I dunno, it makes sense to get a bargain, don't you think?'. The staff member had a responsibility to convey a good image of the store, and to not express an opinion about another shopper.

Having my own food retail experience, on the shop floor, yes it can be pressurised and not always great fun, especially around the bargain section, however, this is part of her job, and it is what she is both employed and paid to do. If she isn't happy with it, then the person to raise any comments with are her supervisor, and if she still isn't happy, then maybe a change of career is in the offing. There are many jobs that are poorly paid, and unrewarding, but this does not give an excuse to do away with common courtesy. I also seem to recall that not many weeks ago Martin himself was asking for all supermarket workers to give the inside info on when/how produce was marked down in stores, so I'd say Triker was playing the game just as Martin would advise.:money:

Had I experienced this situation myself, I would not have felt 'bold' enough to have challenged the staff member there and then either, but would have been upset at having been talked about in this way. I might be a perceived 'vulture', but I'm a meek and mild one! For many of us these super bargains are the difference between eating well or not.

Whether the OP feels the need to contact the store regarding her experience is for her to decide, and only she knows how truly upset she felt about it. We aren't here to judge her, and let's remember that she posted on here because she was already upset, so it would be nice to think that this was a safe, comfortable place for her to discuss her problem, and not feel she was being judged. That's not to say that putting a different perspective on the situation isn't also valid.

As it is Triker, think of the huge saving as compensation for the poor experience, and at least you were able to find some other shop assistants in the same store who were helpful and friendly.:T

p.s. I, for one, am intrigued as to which supermarket it was - Martin would advocate naming and shaming I bet!

    Another vulture here

I must have grabbed (in a polite, non-shoving way, of course!) about £120 worth of food for £30 this week. I have been shopping like this for years, and rarely pay full price for meat, bread , ready-meals etc. Most of the fellow vultures in my local Sainsburys are polite, patient and friendly, so the SAs doing the reductions are polite, friendly and helpful in return.

A big thanks to the lovely lady I met today at the reductions section...who realised she had more stuff than she needed, and offered me a big tray of steak that was reduced to 99p :D
2008 gig list... Nickelback + Staind (OMG...Staind ROCKED!!), Roger Waters, Infadels, Pendulum, The Police, K T Tunstall, Breed 77, Biffy Clyro....oh, and Motorhead :D

Sainsbury's tend to slash their prices faster and earlier than Mr T or Asda so you can go there at 5pm and get some incredible bargains - my best haul was £70 worth of meat for £11 in and I was so excited about it that I phoned my husband from the carpark - he wasn't as thrilled as I hoped so I rang my sister to tell her. How sad lol!

I agree with Sarymclary that the OP's store manager wouldn't want anyone to have a negative experience in his shop, even if it was another customer rather than a SA who had been rude. There's a chance that a complaint from OP would trigger a gift voucher that can be used to vulture some more bargains - what a good way to get your comeuppance!!
