Apparently I'm a 'vulture'!

I'm a vulture and proud of it !!
I spend plenty in the supermarkets so why shouldn't I take advantage of reduced items.
The one thing that irritates me though is people who bring their trolley in alongside so no one else can get near.0 -
Well Ok I Admit It I'm A Vulture Got 15 Punnets Of Strawberries Today At 38p Each Going To Make Lovely Strawberry Jam And I'll Enjoy It Even More Because Of The Price:d0

I used to work for safeway and yes I was one of those reduction ladies. I have to say though some people used to get quite violent trying to get their savings had 2 men nearly fight over a pack of jam donuts one night lol I told em to back off until I had finished I was also crouched down once and there were so many people crowded around me I could not stand up  not a nice experience we all like a bargain but please be nice to the reduction ladies or men
.
Mind you I never had such fun as when we reduced a whole rack of bread and cakes but we did it inside the bakery while all the so called "vultures" waited outside. we then instead of pushing it out of the bakery doors so they could fight over it we took it through the warehouse and out through another door then down an aisle so that it was down by the checkouts was so funny to see them all running to get the bargains. Another game was to put something really nice on your trolley and push it around for an hour while all the bargain hunters follow and are waiting to pounce, the item on the trolley doesnt need reducing and after a while I just calmly put it back on the shelf oh what fun!! sorry but some deserve it lol. I love a bargain myself but would never hang around a supermarket every single night like some do and yes we had the same people in every night!:rotfl:Mortgage overpayments 2008 (started August) £3000 -
Our Local Safeway used to have a Vulture who was always there hovering she was as blind as a bat and had to hold things against her nose to read the labels which was enough to put others off buying the stuff anyway.
If someone blocks the shelf off with their trolley expensive or embarrassing items might just end up 'falling' in there ....WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -

Sorry to resurrect this thread - just back from Asda - I only called in for an evening paper, and wandered down to the reduction fridge - as you do
Pottered on down to the bakery, and then headed to the tills - via the reduction fridge.
Spent just over £8, on goods totally £60.:D
No other vultures around, didn't even see the staff doing the reductions.
First pass on the fridge took a few bits, on second run even more stuff had been put out. I left plenty for other vultures who care to forego the sport and do a spot of bargain hunting.
Cannot decide whether to cook the Ribeye steaks for lunch tomorrow, the leg of lamb, or the stuffed Turkey breast - each marked down to only 50p.:T
Was someone going to organise a "Vulture" uniform for us all to wear ?0 -
Ohh, you Lucky Old Bag! My Tesco don't reduce the bread and cakes anymore!!!! Is this national or my grumpy store? They just throw it all away! I used to love 10p cakes!!I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0

I had to laugh at this thread as it brought back memories for me.
I was shopping in a supermarket when the lady was marking down some of the food, people were swooping in on the bargains but i just watched as I thought it was comical (i have been a swooper in my time so don't get me wrong!!). Anyway as the shoppers carried on with their shopping i heard one of the assistants saying to a customer 'my god they are like seaguls to a rubbish bin bag'.
The supermarket was quite a snobby one though.... I was quite shocked really by her comments and it really put me off looking at the clearance shelf again.
LeonaEnvy is the most stupid of vices, for there is no single advantage to be gained from it.:A0 -
I used to work in a supermarket in my college and university days before getting a real job after my degree.
I must say that I enjoy a bargain, but people do really go too far. I used to work for ASDA and there are such things as vultures and they make your life hell. I had to reduce all the fruit and veg items and you would have two/three people trying to grab items out of your hand at the same time - relaly not nice!
I really used to wind them up sometimes though - by reducing some products by 1p and they would still snatch it just because it had a yellow sticker on it!Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000
