Indicating

Certainly, which is why I said nobody, but worth emphasising to other readers.davetrousers wrote: »You need to remember to consider pedestrians as well as road users.0 -
I don't see this as anything new, people have been complaining about lack of indicators for as long as I can remember. The only obvious difference is there seems to be a lack of jokes about Volvo drivers not using indicators, only BMW now.

I get people tutting and flashing their lights when I don't indicate to move from lane 2 into lane 1 at a road merge, or if i'm in a turn lane........ To me it just shows how stupid they are, I mean where the **** else do they think i'm going to go? I'm in a LH turn lane, but I think I might turn right instead...... Hmmmm.
If it's obvious there's only one place you can go, then there's no point at all in using them, in fact one could argue that using them unnecessarily could create a hazard..... What if someone was waiting to pull out of a junction, saw my indicators and thought "he must be turning off, why else would he use indicators?", or what about on a pedestrian waiting to cross?
Using them when sat in a turn lane is akin to using them when driving around a bend in the road.
It comes down to them being pedantic, knowing they're terrible drivers, having forgotten most of the highway code and compensating by obsessing over the silly details that they do still half remember.... Which unfortunately is why they usually think that overtaking is completely illegal even a dual carriageway.
I 100% believe that indicating should always be done when your intentions need to be clear, but that a driver should always be paying enough attention to be able to actively decide in real time, whether indication is appropriate.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'm sure there used to be a Highway Code example about not having to indicate when you can only go in one direction e.g. a turn left only lane at traffic lights.Strider590 wrote: »If it's obvious there's only one place you can go, then there's no point at all in using them, in fact one could argue that using them unnecessarily could create a hazard...I need to think of something new here...0 -

A pedestrian may not know (from where he's positioned) that you are in a LH turn only lane. (I'm sure there's been another recent thread on that basis. Or maybe it was an earlier post in this thread).0 -

There wasn't.
Signals are for all other road users, not just other drivers, and you cannot assume that pedestrians are aware of left-only lanes, no-entries, etc.
It's even unrealistic to assume that other drivers are aware.

BMW's indicators cancel too easily, and need pressing twice to go from right to left rather than one action like on most other cars (a problem on reoundabouts)
Maybe that is the issue?0 -
I find that people tend to do this a lot more often when moving from the main road to the side road.
Also they do so in a way that if a collision was to occur, they would look like the innocent party as it will boil down to your word against theirs.
This is the very reason why I purchased an scam sj4000
. Good for on board driving in car and karts. 0 -

Maybe that is the issue? They do on the brand new ones with the dampened stalks
My 2004 Vectra has the soft touch indicators (that's what they are called) and once you get used to it, it's VERY easy to use.
Half push indicates 3 times and stops (for changing lanes).
Full locks the indicators on until the wheel goes past the straight position and can be turned off by a half push in either direction.
At roundabouts, you lock on the RH indicator and then touch twice to flash the LH break off signal. This double touch takes less than 1/10th of a second.
Some people moan and whine about soft touch indicators, but its basically because they're ham fisted and their brains can't process the logic behind it.
What they fail to realise is that all it really does is remove the need to hold the indicator stalk half on when doing a quick lane change.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
