Indicating

Is it just me or have drivers stopped indicating now? Nothing annoys me more than waiting at a junction for a vehicle to pass so that I can pull out only for it to either not bother indicating and turn in or to do so at the last second - indicating your intention to turn is a courtesy to other drivers and pedestrians is it not?

Completely agree. I think that car makers have stopped putting indicators and rear view mirrors on new cars.
Worse when you are driving down a road and suddenly the car in front screeches to a halt and then turns down a road. I always leave enough space but even then there have been a few hairy moments.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
Even if indicating, you shouldn't pull out whilst it's still moving towards you.

I personally don't pull out until it's clear to do so but it really annoys me when some little oik takes pleasure in you sitting there whilst he / she leaves signalling to the last second - mini roundabouts also appear to confuse some when signalling their intent.0 -
People changing lanes without indication
People who brake 10s before they indicate to turn off
But that said, a good driver won't just indicate automatically, a good driver scans around and decides whether an indication is necessary and whether an indication could cause confusion/danger (like indicating to turn into a driveway just after a busy junction).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Even when people do indicate it's not always clear seeing as modern light clusters are increasingly huge and angled all over the place. Then yu've got to figure out where the indicator is. Then there's the DRL's that automatically dim on that side so that you can see the indicator more clearly, or that's the intention anyway. All just fashion accessories, style over substance etc etc.0

It does mean I get honked occasionally by the impatient driver behind, but what can you do? I'm the one at risk, not them."Einstein never said most of the things attributed to him" - Mark Twain0 -
On the flip of this though, people that indicate right to go straight on at a roundabout causes confusion the other way... others may say it's correct, im sure its not in the highway code, other than to indicate left when approaching your exit0

If I'm going straight on at a roundabout I wouldn't be indicating right but I would signal my intention by signalling left as I approach the exit.0

In the particular case I was thinking of, the roundabout is out of sight of the junction, some distance round a curve. So you can't tell whether approaching traffic is genuinely indicating or has merely left its indicators on by accident. And of course purists would say that even if it were a long straight road you can't be sure that an indicating car really intends to turn off."Einstein never said most of the things attributed to him" - Mark Twain0

No it's completely the wrong thing to do, last year on another forum, we traced this back through generations and it seems to come from a certain generation from a certain area of the country. It's suspected that one or two rogue driving instructors somehow confused their students into this habit, possibly because of a confusing roundabout layout somewhere.
It is however bloody scary when your next to someone who is indicating as though they're about to cut you off, especially in situations where lane 1+2 go straight on and your in lane 2, with some numpty in lane 1 about to get T boned.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
