I am in a mess and don't know what to do

I have been to supermarket today. Spent £39.93 which is 7p under my bydget of £400

I know my money situation is very tight but I need some spending money for me. A cuo of coffee, a magazine, lunch out etc.
I can't work how much I can spend in a week on myself. Any suggestions?0 -
keep a little notepad with you and write everything down.
For the moment you need to be strong and stick with 'free' enjoyments, coffee out and magazines are just frivolous nonsense we're all made to by with stupid advertising and consumerism. focus on what is important, and once youve sorted out your money you will have more money to do those things.

My suggestion is to forget spending money on yourself for now, you can't afford it. There are other ways of treating yourself that don't involve spending money.0 -

I would fail on the whole debt recovery plan if I had no money to treat myself now and again.
I am struggling as it is. Came home from supermarket and went to bed. Only time I don't spend money0 -
There are lots of free debt advice agencies who can probably assist so I would definitely consider contacting them (i.e. MAS - money advise service). You should never have to pay for debt advice.
Have you considered cutting back on costs such as:
- turning down the heating/switching off radiators in rooms not often used - hot water bottles and blankets when its cold. You'll be surprised how much you can save, especially if you are at home a lot.
- Check to see if you are in the correct council tax band
Is there anything that you can rent or sell to make extra cash?
I hope that helps.0 -
Council tax band already checked. The heating is always turned down low or switched off at this time of year.0

How about - NOTHING.0 -
I think you need to re-evaluate what you find is important, and be a bit tough with yourself.

This remark shows that you've not hit rock bottom yet. It also shows that you're probably suffering from depression, anti-depressants may help, you should go see your GP.
The whole idea of a debt management plan is to cut back on everything which is non essential, "treating yourself" is absolutely non essential. The best way to treat yourself is to get on with your DMP, there will be plenty of time for treats once you have your finances in hand.0
