Great Cheaper Camping and Caravanning Hunt

Since most campsites in the UK and Europe charge you for electricity whether you want it or not we have purchased an electric single hob and do all our cooking on that. No need to use up gas on cooking. We also have a small domestic blow heater to heat the campervan, again using electricity paid for in the pitch site cost.0

That's because it is now illegal for them to resell the electricity now. Rules came in 2 or 3 years ago now.I have a cunning plan!

Just got this e mail from forest holidays, apologies if it's already been posted but its late and i need to get to sleep. The first bit of good news
Rumours are that we're due an Indian Summer, so now's the time to think about packing your caravan or tent and heading for one of Forest Holiday's fantastic sites throughout the UK. If you have a Motorhome/Camper car with your own facilities ie; toilet onboard water tank etc you can stay overnight for free on French farms by joining www.france-passion.com for and annual fee of 28 Euros that can be reduced in subsequent years by re-joining early in December, we have now used this for 7 years and find the French farmers very friendly and have stayed on a variety of farms such as Dairy, Herbs, Pork ,Lavender Cider and of course Vineyards we have always been warmly welcomed and offered samples and the chance to buy , but you are under no obligation to purchase anything just asked to respect they are working and show an interest, another cheap method of travel is to use Tesco vouchers to go via the Eurotunnel, by travelling mid-week we have used £30 worth of tesco vouchers and had to pay the balance of £2 as the return cost was only £1620 -
Hello to all campers
Just another money saving idea. If you holiday at Haven for 3, 2 night holidays you can join their freedom trail club for nothing, you then receive 10 free basic pitch nights for the next year, all you pay is £1 admin fee per night, so a weekend will cost you £2. You can only use 2 vouchers at once, if you don't have all mod cons in your van then you get 50% off electric pitches instead. You also get 10% off any hols booked. You cannot use the vouchers during school hols or bank holidays however be a real money saver, collect your Tesco clubcard vouchers, swop them for 4 times their value and then use these during school hols, banks hols to book Haven hols, (and use them to book days out vouchers for your hols).
We went away for the weekend for £2, and actually got vouchers to use in the restaurant for £5, so the cheeky husband and cousin's hubby sweet talked another voucher off the pretty young thing on reception and got 2 vouchers instead of one, so really they paid us!! Haven'scost £10 ours £2, so we where £8 up! Then we decided to stop another night, cost £6, the cheeky twosome did it again, so really cost us £1. Afterall you don't get, if you don't ask.
Happy camping money savers.
Hope this helps.0 -
The LLyn peninsula in N. Wales is fantastic. We are just back from 9 nights camping at a brilliant site 'Rhydolion'. They have their own website. £12 a night for 2 adults and 1 child. The owners are really friendly, all amenities apart from the washing machines are free! This includes the use of fridges and freezers. They allow dogs but you may have to ring ahead for permission.Ive only ever been camping twice before, so dont know much about any good campsites. Im hoping to go camping over the Bank Hol W'end, either around North Wales area or somewhere in the North West.
Does anyone know any good campsites that I can go, where I can take 2 dogs (one of which doesnt really like other dogs near her, so ideally we dont want to be close to any other campers!).
We were thinking of just driving and finding a field (not necessarily a campsite!) somewhere and pitching up!! (Is this allowed) ?
Hope you can help
Only half a mile away from the fantastic Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth) beach. If you don't have a body board, buy one, the surf is great!0 -

We have a "holiday" tent which is large and comfortable for a 2 weeks holiday and a smaller "weekend" tent which takes about 10 mins to put up. We bought both of these from Go Outdoors in the winter months (from the store in Sheffield) The big one cost £150 (RRP £350) and the smaller one £55 (RRP £175) both were models that had been updated for the following year. With us having such a bad summer, if you are looking for a cheap tent, I bet the local papers will be full of "used only once" tents!!! We are not into sites that have a clubhouse etc.
Cheap sites I have used and loved are:
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2731 No need to book and can get a bit busy but really cheap. Stunning walking and views and dont miss a trip to "Uncle Jeffs" Diner in Over Haddon for a cheap and out of this world meal at lunchtime.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2677 Booking essential. This is on a NT farm and facilities are truly basic but great if you want a "famous five" type camping experience. The kids really love this site.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2757 Not cheap cheap, but worth the money for the really great facilites and its in a lovely spot. Great Fish and Chips in Ampleforth.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5031 Exactly as the reviews state.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4975 Dont miss The forbidden Corner whether you have kids or not!!
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3034 or http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2753
We have also done the Channel Islands and France in our tent have loved it. Yes you do have to pack everything into the car - but for weekends we go very minimal now, but i'd rather have a camping (tent) holiday than any other these days. One of the great moneysaving aspects about camping is that you dont need new clothes when you go on holiday. I remember our last holiday in a hotel cost us more in new clothes than the holiday itself!!0 -
Hi Matt,This could be a great thread apart from the fact I haven't a tent or caravan
So.. Does anyone have any money saving tips for those static caravan sites? Everywhere I look seems to want around £800 for a week!
Thanks
Matt
I:T have discovered a website www.directholidayhomes.co.uk where private owners of static caravans advertise their caravans. They are all on holiday sites all over the country (including haven etc) and prices start from under
£100 for an 8 berth, for a week...... HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0
