    We didn't negotiate a cooker, all that stuff is standard. We did ask them to carpet, wood floor, turf and pay SD which is 16k alone.

    You are placing a lot of emphasis on the visitor parking. You have NO priority over others' and visitors spaces are just that. If a neighbour asked me to park on the road / curb instead of in a visitor place, so they could have that space because they also have two cars, I'd say 'no' (or let's say, words to that effect!). It doesn't matter what they're doing down the road, what about YOUR road? Is it a long term solution? No. Will you be living with different neighbours and different numbers of cars? Yes.

    This doesn't sound like the house for you. OK try downsizing car but do you really want to? What if your wife wants to take the children out and about? Do you really want to be 'space watching'? I've done that and felt trapped because I could never park when I got back...so didn't go out in the first place and found all sorts of excuses.

    I'd go for somewhere else.

    That isn't such a bad deal if you really like the house, but it sounds like you don't sound too happy with it?

    On a £500k+ house that's around 3%, much more can be had I think.

    What a lovely house! I'd make a few allowances for it. And the next door which is 90k less, looks far less attractive for it! At the prices you paying I'd rather have the one you are pondering. Can you get beyond the car parking issue though? :)

    Thank you all for your comments. Yes it is a very nice looking house and as we plan to stay 15 years plus, we'll sort the parking issue. We won't be the only one with one allocated space! We will go back tomorrow with both cars to see how the park lol

    Exactly. You won't

    How will you know what it's going to be like (or are the other houses already occupied?). Your neighbours will/may change in 15 years, and the cars they have etc. Your children will grow up and maybe have cars of their own.

    Sorry to be the humbug, but this isn't something to 'make do' with. It always has a huge impact on happiness living somewhere. It may be going rate and isn't cheap (let's face it, maybe good price for S.E but £520,000 is an awful lot of money), but why compromise on something so major when you are spending that much money.

    What's more, you don't have to compromise on this because there is another house in another village, just mixed in with the "social housing". You will get SH on every new development now. I do understand why there are reservations about this and I have to agree that I get narked if I've paid a premium to live somewhere and somebody else has got a reduced cost. Equally, that's life.

    What happens if in 15 years a small family car is the same size as the one you can't fit in the garage? Cars are increasing in size with every model update.

    I think short term you could put up with it, longer term you'll sell up and lose money.

    I think the house is very well staged. And the photos cleverly taken with wide angle lens. But the thing about a perfect house, is that actually living in it quickly makes it imperfect.

    There are things about a house that you can change: decor, kitchen appliances, fittings. And there are things that you cannot: footprint, location, neighbours.

    I think if you are troubled by the parking arrangements now, you should not be lured in by the here-today-gone-tomorrow range cooker.

    A better option would be to find a house with the right fundamentals and then decorate it to your taste

    You only seem to be looking at the visitors' parking spaces from your point of view and assuming that no other residents will have the same problem. Forget for the moment that they are supposed to be for visitors (and there may be something limiting them to visitors only), it's also possible that other prospective buyers are eyeing them up in the same way as you are; expecting to use them.

    And where will your own visitors park, not to mention anyone else's visitors? The main road looks totally unsuitable.

    You are planning to stay for 15 years and you already have parking problems before you even move in. They will only get worse as children in the houses grow up and start driving. Look at the way car ownership has increased over the last 10-20 years.

    We have just purchased a 5 bed house in the SE for £462k with room on the drive for 5 cars...6 at a push + a 37ft garage (they had a boat). Our surveyor and broker can't believe we got it that cheap as they said it is worth £500k. Zoopla says £535k. It is a 1970's build and the d!cor is tired and apparently people don't see potential LOL! We maxed our LTV and have 90k to do it up, can't wait!


    We looked at a new build like yours and parking, room size, premium price for new build made us say no.


    We would never want to be in a position to rely on a neighbours good will...dangerous game....

    Looks lovely.

    However with the parking. I bought a new build with a garage and one parking space. The communal spaces down the road were all taken in months by other houses as their space. If I parked in them I was frowned at! Also most houses had 2 or 3 cars and most houses had garage plus 1 space. I was the only one that used the garage for the car and hence it was parking overload everywhere - on pavements, blocking entrances etc

    I moved for other reasons, but my next house had to have 2 spaces plus garage. I literally didn't look at houses that didn't have this, regardless of vfm or ticking all other boxes.

    Oh and in my experience, goodwill when it comes to visitor or communal spaces simply doesn't exist!
