I have double glazing and I've just heard a plane go over at 5000 feet (taking off from Gatwick), but most of the time I don't notice them. If I have the windows open they can get irritating after a while. However the London to Brighton main line trains are far more of a nuisance than the planes when I have the back windows open, especially when there are workers on the track (as they whistle).

    Whistling drives me mad too!

You will simply get used to it. However, you can use this as an excuse to negotiate the price. Depending on supply-demand in your area you may or may not be successful.

As you are buying flat, I'd be more worried of leasehold charges and service fees.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
