Southampton airport- noise under flightpath?

I have planes heading for 028 at Heathrow passing at 250 feet directly above my garden in Colnbrook. I'm only 300 yards from the end of the runway. Your one and a half miles distance means the aircraft would still be above 1500 feet at least.
I hated Concorde, especially when they fluffed the landing and did a go round at full power.
Wow that is close! I can imagine you were pretty glad to see the back of Concorde. Is it ok? Something you have become accustomed to? Do you have triple glazing and sound proofing? I've looked again and I think it would be more like a mile from the edge of the runway as the crow flies.Mortgage overpayments 2018: £4602, 2019: £7870

Thanks squirrel. I suspect I might be the same. Is an airport of comparable size? Were they similarly very close indeed?
Manchester Airport, so much busier! They're a few miles further out than you're talking about, but right on a flightpath.
There are some seriously expensive houses in the Cheshire towns/countryside around Manchester Airport, so the plane noise itself can't be a complete disaster for resale value if there are other factors keeping it up.0 -

Thanks Red-Squirrel. Yeah that would be a lot busier. I'd guess at that distance they would still be a decent height. I'll have to conduct further investigations. A bit concerned they'll be very low a mile from landing. Not something I've ever thought about before..Mortgage overpayments 2018: £4602, 2019: £7870

You'll just have to sit in your car for a few hours down the road from the house!
Check to see if the people who live there ever look up when a plane goes over, if they don't, they've got used to it.0 -

I have now moved into Surrey and still get air traffic - most of it 6,000 feet plus. An old freight carrying 747 is still very noisy at that height!
OP - if you have a smartphone you could download an app called plane finder (there is a free version on the App Store for Apple)- shows plane movements in real time and might be helpful to show how often planes are going over the property and at what height if you don't have an opportunity to actually get there.0 -

The OP could always look at flight arrivals and departures times, to and from Southampton, then try to be there at a busy flight time of day to see how disruptive or not, the noise might be.0 -

Oh brilliant! I knew there was a good reason I waste money on a very unMSE smart phone. Thanks, I'll download that now.

Just to add OP I lived a few miles from Heathrow Airport directly under a flight path, and the planes were quite low as they came overhead.
I didn't notice the planes unless it was a large jumbo jet, which made the single pane windows rattle, but even then I was so used to the sound of planes overhead, it didn't bother me at all.
However, Concorde was something else and you definitely heard that, though not an issue you'll have!!0 -
If you do a search on google you should find a site that will give you the noise footprint of any airport, and also tell you what you can expect as compo from the airport.
I.e. My place in Colnbrook gets the benefit of completely free roof repairs and windows changed regularly, currently there is triple glazing as well and a few other benefits such as being paid £400 a year to have a noise measuring device on one of my fence posts for ten years before T5 was built. Very welcome.
Sidefx............Do you remember all the idiots parked along the main road to get a glimpse of Concorde on it's final landing there? I was in my garden cheering.0
