DD2 works a saturday job but off her own back is paying for braces on her teeth privately, most of her wage goes onto the braces and her petrol when using the car.
It seems only fair that when she is living with you she pays, even if it's small.
If she is working a Saturday job now, presumably she will be working many more shifts once summer starts? I would request some money from that, as a portion of her summer keep.
Hopefully when tax credits stop, her braces will be paid off so she can pay you.0 -

Hi, I do understand that but she's 17 years old in full time education so I feel mean charging her rent... if she'd left college I would definitely do it. My tax credits will stop next July and she will be off to Uni in the September so rent won't be an issue then
She is doing some extra shifts for work but using that money to pay her braces off ASAP.LBM 18/06/15 - [STRIKE]£20,276.64[/STRIKE]

Don't feel mean. The earlier you do it, the sooner she'll realise life is not free.
I'm 24 myself. Mum charged me rent from 16 when I got a job. It was a token amount but it made me realise that my keep wasn't free. And taught me to budget (had to give her weekly but got paid monthly). It's nothing to do with being "mean".0 -
Have a couple of items of Tiffany & Co jewellery from an ex with boxes and receipts. Those are being sold next. I'm not sure there'll be anything left in a couple of weeks
Sadly I'm not making much of a dent in my debtLBM 18/06/15 - [STRIKE]£20,276.64[/STRIKE]

Hi
Just wanted to say after reading this thread how impressed I am with you and your children. How many 17 year old pay for their own braces.
The thought that then struck me was have you considered instead of letting a room to a lodger, why not consider being a foster Mum. Your parenting skills are awesome and proven. Give it a thought, maybe this could allow you to keep the family home long term, get back on your feet and become solvent whilst also benefiting some other youngsters who were not blessed with your parenting talents.
Good luck. I am near the very end of my journey and know what an uphill trudge it can be. It gets easier and easier.

Hey amorge, I think you're making great progress. You've closed out one source of debt and are on track to clear another. You're reducing your monthly outgoings as well. Clear very and then throw anything left at the next highest interest rate.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Thank you for your kind words Maria. I was 17 when I had my eldest and always thought I did pretty well; until now. I am very proud of my kids they certainly seem to value money a whole lot more than me!
I had looked at foster parenting but was concerned when it said they look at your finances, figured that might mean a straight out no!LBM 18/06/15 - [STRIKE]£20,276.64[/STRIKE]

Amorge, I know its personal but may be worth providing an update on your debts (potentially monthly? or atleast some sort of regular intervals) This helps make sure you dont slip into any issues but also means people can provide advice if they see a good next step to recommend! Also can you remind me when your 0% deals will be ending, that credit limits on your accounts may also be useful to know, as may be able to consider reshuffling some of the card debts to provide some short term relief
So far seems you are doing well though!0 -

Hi, yes I will definitely update my debts here on a monthly basis. I will check the 0% dates when I get home later. Unfortunately I can't shuffle the debts about as I have been refused for a couple of new cards (have stopped applying now) and the ones I have are up to their limits.LBM 18/06/15 - [STRIKE]£20,276.64[/STRIKE]

im just thinking if there is a way to transfer your barclay debt out and get them to merge your limits and then transfer the debt have at 0%. Anyways just a thought. Also can you check if the cards are 0% purchases or 0% balance transfer (or both and the different terms between them if you have done purchases and balance transfers on the same card). and any special terms such as if they are 0% balance transfers did you have to transfer within the first 30/60/90 days.
No massive rush to find out but just good to ensure you dont suddenly get caught out!0
