  • I note from your SOA that you are currently paying £113 towards your Council Tax. Apologies if stating the obvious but are you currently claiming single person discount towards this bill? (as both your daughters are currently students they are both disregarded meaning you may be eligible for the discount in this instance).

I would imagine you have probably already done so given the value of your house but on the off chance you have not it is definitely worth looking into to free up some extra money, alternatively if you are in receipt of this discount have you considered that once your daughter's finish education that this discount would no longer be applied and would result in a full bill for the year?

Just something to consider as I see you have mentioned you are looking to sell within the next couple of years.
  • Also, regarding CT, are you paying over 10 or 12 months?

If over 10 months, switching to 12 will reduce it to £94-16 per month.

Yes I am claiming single person discount. My youngest should 'hopefully' be off to uni next September. If things don't work out and she does it'll be a full time job and rent for her 😀

If you rent out your daughter's room she could have the box room for the time she is back - not as nice, of course, but a way for her to help out. If house prices are as high as you say then room rents probably are too. (Remember, if you have a non-student lodger you won't get the single person's council tax discount, so take that into account when deciding on a charge.)

If you shower in the evening why do you need the water heater on in the morning? And why for an hour and a half? The water heater I grew up with could heat enough for a bath in an hour and if you just need a tiny bit there's always the kettle.

I see you said that the groceries bill you put down was a bit on the high side, but you can probably trim it down even further by asking the old style board here for help.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I have no idea why I've got the water on in the mornings I guess it was set for the same as the heating!

My daughter is studying abroad for a year shortly so I will be moving all her stuff into the box room to rent hers.

Groceries will be less this month, my weekly shop on Friday was £35, I'm clearing out the freezer, there is quite a bit to go through which is good

    No, stay with 12.

Switching to 10 will increase it to £135-60 per month.

Sorry I meant I'm on 10 months at the moment.
