Three rescue warning

Hi just a quick post in response to a situation we are in, partly my own stupid fault. My son had a phone that was insured and he accidentally damaged the screen so we contacted three rescue who to be honest were great and quickly replaced the phone with an £80 excess could have been worse. 18 months insurance £180 + £80. Now it seems they also want the old phone back which i don't remember anyone actually mentioning but when i go through the emails i received it does mention this, we binned the thing as it was the screen and the LED that was up it, we have now recieved a letter more or less demanding the old phone or a charge of £150 will be made to the account where the excess was paid from. Has anyone else had this happen to them or is it my own stupid fault, i am a tad aggrieved that not only have i paid insurance on what i thought was my phone and an excess to fix the insured phone, but that i can be charged for not sending MY phone back to them

It is your own fault. It is standard when claiming on insurance that you surrender the damaged item, and as you admit you were told you would need to return it.0

Wasn't told, wasn't mentioned, but was on some paperwork, but in retrospect i can see there point, though it would have been cheaper not to have the insurance and paid to have the thing fixed.0

You're expected to read the email - you were told on there.
Yes, sometimes insurance is not good value. Throwing away a mobile phone, even a damaged one, is even worse value - had they not wanted it back you could have sold it.0 -
Why bin a perfectly good phone which simply requires a new screen? Still good for spares/repairs.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Twas !!!!!!ed as far i was concerned, it was mentioned on the email, nothing about failure to return would result in a £150 fine though.0

Sorry But what did you think would happen? of course they want old phone back you could of sold it for all they know , it might not even be broken , put yourself in there shows if you was the insurer what would you do , you still had 6 months left on your contract if I'm right the £150 probably covers this . Every type of insurance does the same they want the broken item returned to them unless lost or stolen ...0

Unfortunately it’s clearly stated in terms in big print you must send in the broken device , the reason being you could say it was Broke and not , count yourself lucky they only charged you £150 as some company’s will charge the full amount , And I know it’s 3 years and some months old but i posted reply for future reference for other ppl as well .0
