    And yes, I received the whole bundle from the lawyer last week, I need to defend it now. Do I have to fill in the forms and send them back or do I just hand them in at the court date?

    CAB told me if it goes wrong it would be possible to pay by installments, does this ring true with any of you guys?

    You still cant owe any rent. You have no contract with the council.

    Agree with you my guess is council trying to recoup the cash because chasing someone for payment when living in Africa is near impossible. All the op needs say is they rented from Linda and didn't understand that this setup was not legal. The council have no contract with the op so how can the council claim payment?

    It's such a shambles it does make me wonder if the council claim is legit and not Linda perpetuating a further scam.

    Thanks everyone for your advice. I have been occupying the flat though, will that have any weight in the court possibly deciding I owe the arrears?

    Apologies to everyone but I have been sh****ing myself for the last 24 hours! Didn't know what to post. I emailed Linda but looks like she accesses internet twice a month and doesn't answer texts

    So WHY did you state you hadn't? People can't offer useful help you if you can't be truthful. I think you have dug yourself into a slight mess with the council and you must not lie in your dealings with them.
