I take supplements to help with an old tendinitis injury, do you think the government should be made to give me those for free as well. Should we all be able to go into any pharmacy or any holland and barretts and pick up whatever we want for free to help improve our quality of life?

Why are we never offered new lenses to fit the old frames?

I have had this option once or twice, but modern frames seem to deteriorate after a few years. Also if you do this you can't use theold glasses as an emergency/spare pair.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I have keratoconus - corneas are forming into a cone shape.

I also have KC. One suggestion for the OP, Costco do cheap high index glasses. When I could still wear glasses I was paying £400+ for a pair and needing to change them every 6-9 months. Costco quoted around £150 for lenses, IIRC they were 1.73, decent make.

And hence the unfairness of the NHS cos over here in NI we get prescriptions free. As do the Welsh and Scots I'm led to believe

And believe me,it's well abused here,no one buys paracetamol or calpol

Bearing in mind the ongoing arguments about whether homeopathic remedies actually work,, or whether they are just placebos, I cannot see them ever being free!

But, as wheelchairs etc., hearing aids and other things to help physical disabilities are provided free (as are things like Methadone, nicotine replacement and anti alcohol medication), then there may be a case for things that help with vision impairment also being funded to some degree.

    Can't see it happening though.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

I'm out ! When someone compares supplying a wheelchair to supplying back up glasses when lenses are usually worn the thread has degenerated beyond the point of no return !

I don't think there's ever been any serious debate about whether homeopathy works! Most rational people accept that it's just pseudo-scientific nonsense.

But it already is funded "to some degree".

Thanks GRM, I'll research that. The problem is my nearest Costco is lord knows where, whereas I can nip to Boots in my lunch break ( I have to go in my own time despite the fact I can't work if my eyesight isn't up to scratch :rotfl:) NOw if I was pregnant...

WHy do I have contacts as well as glasses? Well I need a back-up if I should lose or break a lens - driving one-eyed isn't to be recommended, I know, I've done it. I live alone and would barely be able to get around the house safely without sight correction. Also I'm menopausal and didn't know that your eyes dry out horribly as a result. I used to be able to wear my lenses from 6.30am to midnight perfectly happily, but now I can't wait to get them out as soon as I get home from work and I now tend to wear my glasses through the weekend to give my eyes a rest. Not my choice, but circumstance.

Then why not forget about your lenses and just use glasses, which is what I've had to do with similar problems?
