If you are able to drive, you are lucky, you must virtually, with corrective glasses, have 20/20 vision.

If you wear glasses and they work, you don't have sight problems.....
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Why are we never offered new lenses to fit the old frames?

Some online companies do this but the difference in price is so minimal that it usually isn't worth it because frames are so cheap.

I also have to pay a lot for my glasses.

Got a good deal though with Tesco when I doubled up my clubcard vouchers.

Bet they would not be if you damaged your frame and wanted a direct replacement.:rotfl:

Are you suggesting addiction is simply a matter of self control? Addiction is a mental illness, just like schizophrenia or depression. I guess people with those conditions should just pull themselves together?

Addictions can be managed, with a whole heap of intensive treatment and ongoing support. The chances of getting either on the NHS are minimal, and even if you do get help the chances of relapse are high. Goodness knows why the OP thinks these people get money thrown at them, addiction services are woefully underfunded.

Well, I am a smoker, have been for donkey' years, so that, I guess, makes me an addict.

Mental illness is a completely different subject from addictions, but I agree that all services are underfunded.

Are you seriously saying that all addicts are so seriously mentally impaired they cannot help themselves?

Nicotine is hugely addictive, but, if I really wanted to give up, then, with will power and the right help (ECigs, Nicotine replacement etc.), then, like millions of others, I would give it up, it would cease to be.

I have, over the years, known many people who have given up smoking, alcohol, hard drugs, gambling etc., - they didn't have mental health input, just help from various organisations and services catering to their specific addiction.

But, with people having some forms of physical disabilities, including certain vision impairment, there is no cure, and the best that can happen is various bits of equipment to help people live as normal life as possible.

It's pointless comparing apples and oranges - physical disabilities and addictions are totally different things, although, in an ideal world, there would be enough funding to help all groups properly.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

The last time I think to reglaze them - to put new lenses in a pair I already have would cost me £20 more per frame than getting 2 for 1 frames at Specsavers.

Plus, if you don't have a spare pair, then you will be without glasses for a few days. Also continuous reglazing can damage the frames and opticians don't have liability if they break.

Just because some people have it worse doesn't mean the OP can't have a moan, this is a board for venting after all. It's not the misery Olympics.

Not as cheap, I'll agree - usually better just to buy a whole new pair.

Aren't the other people allowed a vent as well?
