  • I'm not sure if this is unique to NI but if a charity shop occupies your premises, you are exempt from rates. Could you offer either business 1 or 2 as a pop up charity shop?

I can't believe a doctor would say that to someone in distress! How unhelpful & potentially dangerous. It may be worthwhile asking for a different GP this time as some of it surely comes down to personality of GP.

I am not an expert on benefits I'm afraid. There is a benefits board on here but worthwhile trying to speak to the CAB or someone like that?

Is there any wriggle room on the TV package you mention as that £50 would be another big plus for your food bill.

  • I'm not sure about the charity shop, it would be quite difficult I think and a lot of red tape to set up.

Bob - Unfortunately he did, he is one of these types that "doesn't believe in depression" etc. I agree, I do need to see another GP, hopefully one more sympathetic.

I plan to do a benefits check tomorrow using turn2us and see how I get on with that.

The TV is a pain in the backside. Where I live is a very very old house and I cannot get a normal signal so freeview won't work. The only way I can get internet/tv is using cable so am with virgin and on their cheapest package. I could cut out the TV I suppose but it's one of the only things my children do, they don't have a lot of toys as we cannot afford them so they enjoy watching films etc

I wonder if Netflix would be possible with the set up you describe. I don't know as it does rely on an Internet connection too but if it did for £6.99 a month your children would be in heaven with the selection of cartoons, kids films on offer. My son is 6 & he loves watching Dragons, Rug rats, & all sorts of wonderful BBC 'walking with dinosaur' type films. I really hope it is a possibility for you.

  • Thanks Bob, I'll have a look into that. The only thing I wonder is what device would I use to get the netfix?

My son watches on his cheap £40 tablet & it's fine. But as we bought a smart TV in Feb after our 7 year old perfectly ok TV died we also have it hooked up to that. So the answer is anything that runs the Internet. A laptop you have already etc. Certainly doesn't HAVE to be a TV.

  • Feeling the lowest I ever have tonight. Sitting here just contemplating ending it. My rent is due and I promised my landlord I'd pay but I can't. I just want to give up now and end it. I can't see anyway out. He'll terminate my contract. We'll be homeless. I just wish I had my mum here, I have no one to turn to.

Please don't do anything you'll regret. I am so sorry you feel so bad. Is it the landlord on your home or business?

I wonder if you'd consider talking to The Samaritans? http://www.samaritans.org/how-we-can-help-you?gclid=COeMjPeCkMYCFe7HtAodvTUAQQ

Hi, just wanted to say, nothing is that bad, and things will get better, just take every day one day at a time, and look at your beautiful children as they are the most important people in your life and they will always need you.
Please see another gp, or ring nhs direct, I called them a few years back when I just could not stop crying and they were so helpful..and kind. Sending you virtual hugs.
    Please post again soon x
  • It's my home landlord. I'm just not sure I can carry on anymore. I'm so so frightened. I don't know what will happen to us. I don't feel worthy of someone trying to save me. I'm so sorry to put all this here, I'm just breaking down
