what is the best supermarket to work for?

My wife is thinking of going for a part time job in a supermarket, which one is best? We have all the main ones in comuting distance from us.
I know Sainsburys gives 15% discount on your shopping, sometimes goes up to 20-25% plus the nectar points, I think Tesco is only 10% discount for employees, is that right?
I know waitrose gives the best bonuses.
Mosisons also do a good employee discount, I hear, but don't know the details?
Be very grateful if all the details could be posted here, by those who know the numbers for all the supermarkets? How much employee discount do each one give and what are the other benefits?

While I don't have any information on discounts, bonuses or benefits which is best depends on more than just how much they give.
For example, if you buy a lot of Tesco own brand items and don't like Sainsburys then it doesn't matter if Sainsburys give more of a discount than Tesco as you'd save more at Tesco due to being able to buy all the items you like at a discount rather than a select few items.
Plus, as with any place, it's also who you are working for and with and the general environment.0 -

This is all true, but I would be interested to see a comparison between all the employee benefits of all the supermarkets.
I now someone who works for one of the big ones and he saves a lot every year due to his employee discount. There are time when it is as high as 25% so they do all their big shopping, even TVs and electrical goods.
This would make a difference even on min wage, it would almost be like earning an extra several thousand per year.HTB = Help to Bubble.0 -
You'd have to be spending an awful lot on electrical goods for the savings to equate to several thousand a year. The OP might be better looking at the practicalities such as shift patterns and the expectations with regard to overtime. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

No, Total shopping silly. You can buy almost everything you need to buy at the supermarket these days, if you can get up to 25% discount, that's a lot of savings.HTB = Help to Bubble.0 -
Sainsburys don't get 15%. It's 10% but twice a year they will give you 15% off when they do the 25% off clothing.
With the amount of people who apply for the roles at supermarkets, your wife might not be so choosy as to who she works for.:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
Tesco is 10% but is limited to something like £800 of discounts a year, so if you blew £8k somehow, you'd get £800 off, but that would be it for the year if i remember right. The wage was £7.20 per hour though so slightly above minimum wage.0

Sainsburys is 10% and a couple of times in the year it goes up to 15%, Easter, Christmas and it was recently at 15%. You also get discounts at halfords and other businesses.
You say your wife is thinking of going for a part time job. We could be wasting our time.
Aldi pay more than the others but you don't get any staff discounts.0 -

Come on mate, you could at least tell us which supermarket gives 25% discounts to it's employees....0 -
Depending on hours worked and size of household it may be better to consider the wider package rather than just the discounts offered. E.g. Hourly rate, pension, sharesave, bonus, profit share, sick pay, holiday entitlement, overtime availability etc0

Waitrose is 15% and 25% off John Lewis plus the bonus of at least 10%. It makes my pay decent for the job I'm doing.0
