    May update:

    Loan balance down to £7,990
    Mortgage at £89,700

I had a health scare in January so I've been topping up my rainy day fund as much as possible. I'm not quite at one months' salary yet but I'm working on it. Trouble is, it never rains, it just pours in my life. I really want to use all extra money to pay off the loan as quickly as possible but as January taught me, I need to have a little aside just in case.

I seem to be ploughing through the grocery money this month too :( It's only the 2nd! LMG became vegetarian and then got herself a part time job (in a chicken restaurant!) so I need to work the meals around that. It is good on the days she works as she gets fed (they do have veggie options) so I just have to feed me and I will eat whatever I cobble together but on the days she doesn't I need to plan better. I was unwell for 3 months and I am still recovering so I got out of the habit of proper meal plans as I wasn't able to walk to the supermarket. I had to rely on others to get shopping for me which is not easy, especially when you have no appetite. Really need to get back into the swing again.

    That's it!

Thanks Lou. Thankfully it was not my heart, it was actually my legs. Suspected DVT. 3 scans and two chest x-rays says it wasn't. That and the fact that I'm getting better. Symptoms lasted for almost 4 months but I'm on the mend now.

I cancelled Sky as they wanted too much for internet and I wasn't prepared to pay it. Couldn't negotiate them down low enough so told them it's over. They weren't that upset. Neither am I. I have called them to refund the £13.10 they owe me and they are sending that out to me in the next 2-4 working days. The woman suggested takeaway and a bottle of wine (not with her haha) but I know what £13.10 can buy grocery-wise so I smiled and nodded (not that she could see that on the phone) politely and mentally added it to my grocery budget for this month.

The breakdown recovery company with the yellow vans wouldn't negotiate low enough with me either so I cancelled them and got basic cover with the orange van company instead.

I have been getting my toiletry supplies from S@vers in the past couple of years. On or just after payday I go and buy what we need for the month. Did that yesterday so all topped up for May. Might have to pick up more laundry liquid but we have some for now so I'll try to make it stretch as long as possible.

Just waiting until 12th May so I can get my cc paid off and get that behind me. I have the funds aside for it, as always, but I just want it cleared for last month now.

What a lovely weekend it was. A bit cold but at least the sun was shining so I could look out the window and pretend it was warm out there.

I received the £13.10 back so that has gone over to the ever decreasing grocery fund.

I am saving £2 coins again this year but I'm not jumping on them like I have done in the past. I am just potting them if they end up in my purse. One over the weekend so I must have about £8-£10 pounds now. I'm not keeping a note of the amount, I usually lose count when it gets to about £14.

3 weeks left in this job now :)

The credit card statement came in a couple of days early (it does that from time to time) so that's it paid off again, thank goodness. I pledge to behave this month.

Going to meal plan and do a shopping list for later. LMG has a couple of shifts this week so that's two nights where I can eat a concoction from what's in the cupboards/freezer. We have two nights a week where we eat at my folks' so that leaves 3 nights to plan for. LMG is on exam leave so I have to allow for her lunches too. All will be fine though.

It's been an expensive day. Got the TV Licence reminder through so just paid it. That way I won't forget at the end of the month.

Meal plan and list nearly complete :)

Good to see you HI! :hello:

The shopping came in under budget yesterday which is just as well since I only had 3 meals on it  LMG is lunched for the rest of the week, as am I.

I'm feeling so sorry for LMG. It's her first exam (of two) today. Last night she sat down beside me and actually cried. She is not a crier. She said she is really worried about it and scared for the future. She is not particularly academic (struggles with dyslexia too) and these exams are horrible for her. She gets extra help but it doesn't make her feel better. I keep telling her to do her best as that is good enough but that doesn't seem to help either. I don't know what else to do or say.

Anyway, the sun is shining. If we could just get rid of the cold wind it would be a lovely day :)

How awful for LMG, it's an awful time of year for those of all ages taking exams. Mine are at the other end of the scale and my 6 year old has been wetting the bed etc worrying about her exams. I've kept reassuring her that as long as she tries her best, no matter the out come we will be proud. Her teacher set some amazing home work for over the sat weeks. It's a list like * go to the park *bake with your parents *have a film night *watch the birds etc etc obviously I'm sure LMG would need different things to relax than go play on the park :p

That's exactly what I said to LMG. As long as you can say you did your best then that's good enough.

That's such a wee shame for your wee 6r. They're just little at that age. That teacher sounds really good though. We went for a drive last night (I don't use the car much during the week so I like to give it a run to keep it ticking over) just down the coast and back but I asked her if she wanted to go with me. She said yes (she has been studying a lot recently and I thought it would be good for her to have a break even though the exam is today, after her wee breakdown earlier in the evening) and I think she really enjoyed it. She took a picture of the sunset which was a pretty pink colour with some nice clouds and the sun like a pink ball of fire. We had our usual laughs (we are quite close as I have brought her up myself) and I just hope it relaxed her, although she was a bit tense again this morning. I'll find out in a wee while how she got on.
