Mines just shy of £1400 for a 3 bed detached house - not single occupancy though. So, not a million miles away from what yours would be if you were paying 100%.

    Hello AFK
I am looking to buy a place abroad in the next 6 months too so lots of exciting moving forward.
    Bexster :)

What  :D You just said - far less exciting than I think.
Wrong - This is as exciting as it could be :j  _party_ I need to know more, what, where, when etc, etc

Frayed Knot, you've managed more than I this month. :)

Maybe so, but you do have your Challenge 1 £££, and the deadline has not finished - yet :D so you could be overtaking me anytime soon :) will this be going to o/p or earmarked for something else?
i agree afk you cant overpay to much if you cant get it back this is the part that scares me really
Well i cant anyway could you ?
i had my council tax this week also shall we share information lol i know it has no relivence at all but interesting
mines around £980 a year for a 3 bed semi with my 25% single discount lol

LiL - I know I'm allowed to reduce/stop my mortgage payments until the amount I have o/p catches up with, if I had been paying my normal amount of mortgage - does this make sense to you.
And I can also apply for a holiday period - which means in effect - I would be claiming my money back. So doesn't scare me - my name is - i'm not afraid :rotfl:
What part actually scares you - I just ask myself - worse case scenario - how much would I need in an emergency - so long as that's covered - i'm not afraid :rotfl:
So in answer - yes I could o/p and not worry about it - I already done this and left myself scarily low on my EF  but have enough to cover myself for any emergencies :)

:o Council tax - mine is £1460 for a 3 bedroom, and have not been very MFW :o regarding this. :)

I'm visiting Italy with a view to buying a place. With no mortgage here and a significant Payrise, it seems like a good idea really.

I will wait to buy until after the referendum I think ( see how the land lies). Initially as a holiday home and rent out to family and friends for holidays. If I can get somewhere with space, I would like to live abroad permanently eventually and run a B and B type of retreat to pay the bills.

Continuing to dream. Hope you are enjoying the long weekend

You have to be comfortable with what choices you decide, in my case, although I was comfortable in my choices/decisions (maybe too comfortable) at the time, I now wish I had someone (myself) who "shoved" me just that little bit harder. :) I am now paying 100% more (with o/p included) than I was when first starting to pay my mortgage, only 4 years ago, with a 1% rise in salary each year.

Now wondering where I would be with mortgage, had I paid what I am now paying, at the start of my mortgage. Away to investigate.

    Council Tax - I could get a 25% discount :o

Every overpayment is a bonus. :) I wouldn't try to calculate how much less you'd owe had you started the overpayments when you took out the mortgage as it may be demoralising.

Must say I detest paying council tax and can't see why it's based on property value. Personally, I think it'd be fairer for everyone to pay the same rate. We pay c.£1,700 p/a in council tax but my parents have a c.£3,000 p/a bill for it. Seems like a lot of money to have the bins taken when they wish. Recently we've had them changing the day.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

    OK - lesson learnt :)

If I paid what I paid at the start of the mortgage with no o/p's I would be MF - May 2029

If I paid double at the start of my mortgage - with no o/p's - I would be MF - April 2021

Now - paying what I do without o/p's - MF date is Oct 2023

Now - pay what I do plus o/p - MF date Feb 2020 - my way - just now :D

Which leads me to think - my way is the right way :rotfl:
