Acceleration of different cars

Grown-ups really don't care that much about 0-60 times for road cars because they don't go around dragging people off at the lights. The overtaking performance of most cars (roughly between 40 and 70 in practice) is more than adequate.
Even that doesn't make as much difference as you might think in road conditions because, the faster you can accelerate, the shorter that straight bit of road becomes in terms of reaction time when someone appears coming towards you and the faster you're moving towards them to take evasive action.0 -
According to Parkers website the 550ps GTR can do 0-60 in 2.6 seconds so I'd expect the Nismo to do it in 2.4-2.5 seconds.0

You are incorrect. The latest 2015 Nissan GTR (550PS) can accelerate from 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. The GTR Nismo with 600PS can do it in around 2.5 seconds.According to Parkers website the 550ps GTR can do 0-60 in 2.6 seconds so I'd expect the Nismo to do it in 2.4-2.5 seconds.
So first you state 'you ARE incorrect', but then you say you'd 'expect'.
Fact or not? Your expectations are not facts, as you have proven many times.
Before stating a fact, please ensure you have a source of unquestionable reliability to cite - Parkers are not universally recognised for their veracity.
Also... please put winky away for now, no one wants to see it.0 -
Well, the point I was trying to make in this thread that its interesting to see how some cars, even with their masses of power, cannot put it all down efficiently to the tyres. Typically the American muscle cars with their 650hp plus engine still perform poorly in quarter mile times.0

Ah apologies - I checked the times and seems I just looked at the GTR.
Still, seems like a lot of dosh to lay out for 0.2 of a second - in excess of 100 grand even if you go for a brand new BMW HP4.
I think at the end of the day my post was to highlight how cheap one could acquire a vehicle that would post sub 3 second times (even with me on board) than the fractions of a second involved in a penis comparison exercise

This. Totally. For everyday real-world driving, the 40 - 70 time ( or 50 - 80, or similar ) is far more important and useful than a 0-60 time. A better mid-range acceleration allows you to overtake more safely and in a shorter distance ( even with the caveat that you're covering the same distance faster ).
Many years ago a mate of mine had a Marcos. The 0-60 was fairly respectable, the top speed was more than enough to attract the attention of the boys in blue. But where it really excelled was in overtaking. He took me out for spin, the first time he went to overtake something it scared the bejesus out of me. I thought he'd never make it, but actually he breezed past the other car with ample space to spare. Totally effortless. He was able to safely overtake in spaces where I wouldn't even have attempted it in my "ordinary" car.0 -
We're all off to Tenerife darkmatter been to elevenerife.
Seriously in his first post back he openly admitted this new name was an AE. That was removed and they've allowed him to stay.
He is clearly back up to his old tricks. So why is he still here?0
