BiB That logic dosen't work because if you tried ringing an 01 number in France without using the +33 international dialling code you wouldn't get through, but ringing an 01 number in IoM you will.

I have a mate on the IoM and regularly ring him and calls were included in both BT anbd Sky talk plans so it came as a shock to find not only are calls to 01 in the IoM charged at international rates so are texts and they dont come out of the unlimited text allowance. If I text him or call from my mobile I'm charged at International rates if he rings me using his mobile or texts he isn't charged international rates and it comes out of his allowance.

Just for clarity. My original post was about calls from UK to IoM

Although calls to IoM landlines are charged by BT at whatever BT tariff you are on (I get free calls) as IoM is a self-governing state of the UK, and is not part of the EU, mobile charges are charged at whatever rate your mobile provider likes!

Yup, I know, so was mine as my mate lives in the IoM and I live on the IOW which is part of the UK.

I initially thought that both statements were wrong because 1. I remember the IoM abolishing birching due to EU pressure and 2. this.....

Despite what it says, it seems its territory is indeed not part of the EU.

This no prepayment required, 0333 access number allows you to call Isle Of Man Landlines https://www.doubledial.co.uk/cheap_calls_to/united_kingdom.

Handy for those with 01/02/03 inclusive minutes.

Are you sure that isn't itself another premium prefix masquerading as an out-of-allowance one? Hybernia thinks so in the OP on this thread:

When I come to check this on the Sky website, it requires me to "call a Sky expert" (oh yeah?) on 0333 202 2135 at a cost of 9.58p a minute plus a 15.97p connection charge.

Calls to 03 numbers cost the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers and count towards inclusive allowances on landlines and on mobiles. This Ofcom rule has been in place since 2007. There are no exceptions.

Yes i am sure.I did say the number was handy if you had inclusive minutes. All suppliers are required to treat 03 calls the same as 01/02 calls, and this not a recent ruling. Have you not noticed how much some suppliers charge to make non inclusive calls to 01/02/03 these days.

I did read the other thread recently. I couldnt be bothered to make a comment ,enough people had tried to help him.

    See: http://ask.ofcom.org.uk/help/telephone/03number

"Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.

These rules apply to calls from any type of line including mobile, BT, other fixed line or payphone"
  • Right then, lets turn this around for a second, we all know that the IoM and CI are crown dependencies of the Britain. for the purposes of telephony they are grouped as Britain, from overseas calls to both IoM and CI are charged at GB / UK Rates.

IF you are calling from the crown dependencies, calls to the UK are / can be included in your talk plan, depends on who your provider is:

Jersey Telecom allow you to call the UK, as part of their deals, but may need a bolt on, check the price plan on their website

Sure Mobile is a mobile phone operator, covering both the IoM and Channel Islands
PAY MONTHLY ONLY: inclusive minutes, texts and data apply when connected to the Sure mobile network. Minutes include calls to Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK (including numbers starting with 03) and Ireland mobiles and landlines, excluding premium rate, directory enquiry and non-geographic numbers. Inclusions are per month unless otherwise stated.

On that evidence, if those living on the crown dependencies, can get inclusive minutes to the UK, (included in their package or as a bolt on) and to each other (and in some cases to the Republic of Ireland) then surely it is us, who is getting ripped off and I'm with the OP on this one.

Calls from the UK to the crown dependencies should be part of inclusive talk time, or a new all inclusive tarrif for the British Isles should be implemented, otherwise.
