    1. First car was mis-sold. A bona fide trader is obliged by law to actively tell you such things as previous one owner was a hire car/taxi/driving school firm. Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
Unfortunately you resolved that issue by swapping for another car.
    2. You had the second car checked and the trader then rectified those faults.
    3. Your car is now making a noise, take it back and have it checked.
  • Im not entirely sure tbh. I just feel they shouldn't be able to get away this and should be held to account over it.
Selling cars not fit for purpose does not sit easy with me and then being able to get away with it just iritates me. Lying to customers about the state of the cars is just dangerous and i can't beleove there's not governing body that can hold them to account.

I don't think you can really do much other than put in writting a complaint about the standard of service you received, including the details of the dangerous brakes and invoice/pictures from the other garage.

Beyond that, negative reviews (although please bear in mind that they resolved all of your issues eventually) are all you really have I'm afraid,
  • I will need to grudgingly accept that there's nothing I can do. Have already sent complaint but i think if I hadn't went for second opinion id be driving around with dangerous brakes and that could happen to others.

But if there's no one further to escalate other than to themselves internally then I'll just need to accept that.

You have already been told what you can do-take out an action via the civil courts (small claims process if within the small claims limit of £10,0000).
There is no regulator or Ombudsman for the motor industry. And if there was, they would not consider your claim anyway, as it's been resolved. The regulator generally only looks at cases where a) the complaint has not been resolved within the 8 week time limit, or b) the dispute is deadlocked. In your case it appears that you haven't made a formal complaint anyway.

Car was a rental car previously and not advised.
I've bought two ex-rental cars, the first one I kept 10 years with no major problems & this one I've had 15 years. What's wrong with ex-rental cars?
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

What's wrong with them is that they have been driven by a procession of drivers of varying degrees of skill and normally in a hurry! Modern day cars can now soak up an enormous amount of punishment and after a valet, look showroom fresh. They do have accelerated wear however (from a single, normal driver covering the same miles) and if presented for sale without the trader highlighting, actively, not waiting to be asked, that they had such a past, they would attract a higher selling price from the, "average consumer" had that consumer been made aware of its history.
