  • the recent drop in oil prices is a blip in the market if you take an average over the past 3 years its actually around 60p per liter. its naive to think that the prices will stay so low.

also any property can qualify for RHI payments

I honestly do not know about RHI, as do not have anything to do with the UK.
In another thread, you said you have been dealing with heat pumps for 30 years, so why only change to the technology this year?

    Naïve?

Well oil prices have fallen again today and all the experts(who make their living in the futures market) must be naïve.

There is a consensus of opinion that with Iran now back in favour, fracking becoming a cheap energy source, that oil will remain at current prices or drop.

Anyway give us some figures to discredit what zeupater posted about your £30,000 RHI and consumption figures.

There are experts, not least 'lovesgshp' who know a great deal about heat pumps and are not given to making unsupportable claims - like yours.

    Hi

It's probably more of a market-price correction to align standard oil production with shale-oil production costs, in which case even though there'll be a price recovery it'll be moderated by US and other shale-oil production. Section 4 (particularly Chart 4.1.4) in the DECC quarterly energy report ( https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/415778/qep_mar_15.pdf ) well describes heating-oil retail price movement and tends to support a view that the high prices a few years ago were a 'blip' - as such, it's more likely to be considered naïve to assume that prices will bounce back soon.

Counter intuitively, having a heat pump installed last year to replace oil-fired heating and stating that "bills went from £1300 to £700 " before mentioning that domestic oil prices had fallen significantly (20%-40% depending on install date) does little to support a 50% cost reduction in energy usage over the same period ... using the figures and information supplied, it just makes the case for the heat-pump installation worse .... you see, if the oil price was higher than the 40p/litre used, then the heat demand would have been lower, which in-turn brings the scale of the DRHI return of £30k further into question ...

Now, considering the above, you'll find a number of people following this thread would be interested to see an explanation of how the such a high level of RHI payments stack-up with the relatively low heat-demand described by the value of both current and previous bills ...
