What to get my 13 year old for birthday?

When I was turning 13, in 1985, the "in" present to have was a carport/garage disco i.e. a birthday party that wasn't a kids' party. I wasn't allowed one, and nor were most of my friends, but we talked for months about the people who were/might be throwing one and it definitely made you temporarily popular at school as nobody wanted to miss out on an invite.
I can't remember what I got. Probably a package of blank cassette tapes to tape songs off the radio! We could never have enough tapes. Or maybe a computer game - which is perhaps the only one of my suggestions that would translate into the modern-day world (although whatever console she has, it won't be half as brilliant as my 48k ZX Spectrum was).
Whether the OP is just messing about or not, I'd be interested to hear what other people did/got for theirs, and what year it was.

I should add we are taking her out for a meal so we have planned something.
Most of her friends seemed to have nails or hair done that kind of thing, but my dd gets those done every couple of weeks so I would feel bad giving her that as a present.
It was so much easier when a shopping spree in toys r us was enough. Teenagers are so fickle!
They are aren't they. How do we cope with this kind of responsibility in this day and age? :cool:Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -

She has all the usual gadgets, iPad iphone tv etc and they are all relatively new so upgrading would seem like a bit of a waste.
She's not keen on jewellery so that's ruled out. Any ideas welcome.
Thanks
hairdryer, good straighteners, shopping day, ears pierced if she's been asking? anything else she's dropped hints about?
I did a photo collage as a surprise for my daughter's birthday (14th) last month, it had pics that meant something to her through the years (fave family, friends, pets, holidays, trips etc). It didn't cost much (half price through Tesco
) and she loves it. 0 -
Thank you for answers, not quite sure why I'm making it up.
I think we are going to go with a new iPhone. Her old one is now 2 models old, which I'm led to believe is unthinkable and terribly unfair. And perhaps a new laptop as she needs a more up to date one for school. Just doesn't feel very special
On a side note for my 13th I got a pair of shoes with a 3 inch heel which made me feel very grown up and a jewellery box( that I still have)0 -
She's got her ears pierced 3 times already and I'm not caving to the demands for a belly button quite yet!
She drops hints for things that require a huge chunk of cash. If I believed everything I was told she must go to school with millionaires!0 -
An iPhone and a laptop? Please will you adopt me?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I've got a funny feeling that this might be the same person:

Quick summary, daughter turning 11 soon (2 years ago) but already has everything, including hair extensions. OP ignored everyone's suggestions other than to ridicule them.0 -
