I would not buy this mainly due to the garage issue.0

It has (other people's) garages under it - it's a flat, so is almost certainly leasehold.0 -

I don't know what my reservations are. A few months ago I was intent on buying a property not too far from this one and that was only 1.5 bedrooms and priced at £135K but she would not drop any more than £133K which I could not afford. This one just seems a bit too good to be true. I asked about the neighbours and he said they were elderly and not "rough".
My two thoughts are that my elderly neighbour could be described as "elderly and not rough" but to say they are a problem neighbour would be a bit of an understatement (long story......not to their credit) and that is rather how I would interpret a comment like that. But, as they are elderly, then they may not be there long anyway if they turn out to be like my nfh.
Re the front garden - you describe it as "huge". Is there a lot more of it than appears in the photo then? Reason being I would describe it as "small" from the photo I can see.
I would estimate that the house hasn't sold yet basically because of the small front garden coupled with no back garden and/or the couple next door may be elderly (but are still nuisance neighbours).
The things that would put me off are:
- small front garden
- no back garden
- garages underneath (ie petrol fumes rising up into the place - unless its very well built)
- its other peoples garages
- leasehold
?Unsure on this - but aren't flats/maisonettes with other peoples garages underneath a bit of a problem re insurance?/flying freehold stuff?0 -
I'd call this a duplex maisonette.
Basically its a flat with the added advantage of being (a) duplex because it is on more than one floor and (b) maisonette because it has its own entrance.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It also looks ex-council.
It isn't worth considering, it has too many issues. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Looks like a council estate. And not a nice one.0

Looking on Google Maps, most neighbours appear to have children, with accompanying eyesore trampolines on show and, as has been said, it looks like a former/present council estate.
As there is no entry directly from a road, there is a long walk with shopping and the weekly bins, which seem to have to be left at the road end of the pathway.
The garden certainly is not large.0 -
Hi guys,
Thanks so much for all the advice and tips.
The main reason for me wanting to move is the heathens that currently live next door to us, they are making our life hell and I just don't know what to do.

PASTURESNEW - There are loads of other properties available in the area and I have been and viewed most of them. Unfortunately, estate agents are very good at photoshopping and "glamming" properties up. So looking at them online may make them look really nice (I've fallen in love with a few having seen them online), but in reality, they are not. For instance, I have seen a few properties where there were about 4 floorboards missing in the bathroom but they are all on in the photo on the website. The walls are all cracked and have bricks missing but look fine in photos etc. Various other bits of damage not evident in the photos but there in real life. I've probably viewed a property every other week but I have not had much success. I know some of the issues might just be cosmetic etc, but a lot of these people are not willing to drop prices, so the full price and then cosmetic work / decorating would not be affordable for me. With this one I enquired about, the house actually looks like it does in the photos, and that really surprised me.
TEDDYSMUM - The garden is not huge, but it is a lot bigger than some of the others property gardens I have seen.
And yeah, you guys are right. It is ex Council and the garages are rented from the Council.
Like I said, I was surprised it has not sold yet, but there are all these issues which you guys have kindly pointed out. As a first time buyer, I don't really know what to look out for and can only thank you are all in abundance for pointing all these things out to me. I really appreciate it and have noted them all in my ever growing notepad of questions to ask when viewing and things to look out for.
And sorry if I sound like a complete muppet asking these questions. I just don't know what to look out for etc.
Once again, many thanks all.0 -
