I have an application on my phone called Llama, I can configure it to automatically make it completely silent between 10.30pm and 6.30am if I am at home, no matter what happens. It works based on which cell towers it's getting a signal from to work out where the phone is.
I installed it for precisely the reason mentioned, being woken up by random spam texts.

My phone has a night mode (if plugged in to charge, which I do every night) so automatically goes onto silent between 10 and 7. It's a great idea! Most nights I put it onto flight mode too because if I get any notifications there's a flashy blue light which annoys me! I was worried the other day though as I was doing some work from home (releasing some code into production) and the other person doing the checks said he'd call me if there were any issues... I went to bed and without thinking put my phone onto flight mode and went to sleep! Woke at 6 in a panic that I may have missed an important call! Luckily he hadn't needed me!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Ono, the problem would be that if I didn't clean they would still visit but make comments. They make comments anyway but at least I know I've tried!0

I got comments for a while but it seems to have stopped now. I might have said something like "It's my home, I live here, I'm happy with it." at some pointProud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

Or an off switch?
Am I missing something?Ono, the problem would be that if I didn't clean they would still visit but make comments. They make comments anyway but at least I know I've tried!
If they make comments anyway, why bust a gut trying to get it spotless? Onomatopoeia is right; just explain that it's your house and you're happy with it, and there are far more important things to be worrying about, especially now! And that you'd be really grateful if they could help you out by not pointing out what they consider to be shortcomings, when you have so much else to think about.(I just lurve spiders!)

I don't understand this. Do your phones not have a silent function?
Or an off switch?

I normally have it on silent but I forgot last night. Dammit. Would be the one night that a spam thing comes through.
Ono - like all the best people I am Android.
Katy - are we related? My parents do the same thing. I'll have a quick tidy before they arrive but I'm past the stage of doing a full on deep clean. It's not like they're not aware that I'm messy. It's still annoying when my dad asks why I haven't hoovered when I have though. I'be started pointing at the hoover and telling him to crack on which seems to shut him up.
