So Scotland will be like Greece if it goes independent (as some keep saying ), AND if it takes Smith as is within the Union. Decisions, decisions....
there is a golden scenerio when scotland becomes independent
obviously Scotland will refuse to pay its share of the UK debt so will start off as a debt free state
The EU will then refuse entry to scotland thus saving it from having to join the EURO, allow it to regain the fishing in its waters, save huge sums being able to avoid EU mad rules, increase the cost of gas being supplied to the English (sweet revenge for 300 years of English patronising subsidies) and benefiting from massive investment funded by massive borrowing.
A second golden age of enlightenment will open up for Scotland, perhaps slightly spoiled by the unexplained explosion that kills Alex but Nicola is proclaimed queen, scots from all over the world flock back 'home' and the weather improves.0 -

It all sounded so feasible until you mentioned the weather.0 -
Exactly - which economy? Will the UK economy recover or is it about to be submerged by Sturgeonomics.
She will find out tomorrow what is actually in the Queen's Speech. Maybe people will wonder what her fuss was all about.
I look forward to your detailed analysis.
The article you copied is so difficult to understand. After all the SNP signed up to the Smith Agreement with the others did they not? So naturally they think it is ok for Scotland or maybe they withdrew their agreement on Twitter afterwards. Anyway it can hardly that bad or the SNP woudl have said so at the time.
But that aside, comparison to Greece is a bit over the top. From what I have read there is to be a large increase in powers in Scotland, enough for the SNP to prove themselves either capable or incapable of additional responsibility.
We (and Sturgeon come to that) will find out more tomorrow; she's leading the gun a bit don't you think? It's like judging a book by the cover where you draw the cover artwork yourself.
The SNP weren't happy about the Smith commission. There was absolutely no secret about that. John Swinney made his disappointment very clear at the time of it's release to the public. And said so about 5 mins afterwards while standing next to Lord Smith on the podium. Part of the reason they weren't happy was that the Scottish govt wouldn't have a full range of fiscal levers in order to grow the Scottish economy. They did say so at the time.
I think I recall you reacting with near apoplexy at the time that they weren't happy with it actually.
I'm sorry the article I copied in was hard to understand. If you can't read the full thing, I do apologise. I forget sometimes that the Herald is behind a paywall after a few free articles. If you have read the whole thing and still can't understand it, then there's not much I can help you with further.
As for the Queens' speech. Yes we'll see. Here's hoping Cameron offers another Scottish referendum !But in all seriousness, you can't really expect the SNP/Sturgeon who were voted in on an anti-austerity ticket, to start supporting Tory austerity measures now can you ? You're being a little niave there really. Whether they come to anything remains to be seen. But the fact is all they really have to do is keep pushing for it, and be seen to keep pushing for it. Not many up here who voted for them are going to blame them for doing that !
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

With all the 'tools' the SNP have got I'm surprised they need any levers :rotfl:0 -

They signed it off and reportedly themselves took discussion of FFA off the Agenda of the Smith discussions.
I don't remember having tantrums at the time but do remember that it was annoying that no sooner had the SNP signed up they started to carp. The words "Bad Faith" come to mind. That did not go unnoticed.
Anyway the "Vow" is about to be met, on time, and with the decision of the Scottish Referendum honoured.Union, not Disunion

So the previous leader of the SNP has said he will be "a thorn in the side of" the Government. Well he has form, he's been a pain in the a**e for some time.
I look forward to the SNP working for the betterment of the UK and Scotland within it.Union, not Disunion

Well he's off to a good start then. Naughty Tories trying to slip something like EVEL in through standing orders and without proper parliamentary debate.Alex Salmond, the former Scottish first minister, has challenged David Cameron’s attempt to bring in English votes for English laws without fresh legislation, as the new raft of Scottish National party members made their presence felt on their first full sitting day in the House of Commons.
John Bercow, the Speaker, said he would give serious consideration to Salmond’s objection after it was revealed in the Queen’s speech that the government would try introduce the change through amendments to parliamentary rules known as standing orders. This would mean the controversial measures giving English MPs a veto over English laws could be passed without the usual amount of parliamentary debate and scrutiny....
....In his first contribution after returning as an MP, Salmond said the proposals would “breach the fundamental principle that all members of the house are equal”.
Raising a point of order, he urged the Speaker to investigate the consequences of the move and argued that if no action was taken, “any majority government could change standing orders to restrict the rights of any member without so much as a by your leave”.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Don't see what the problem is; sure let's have legislation. So what, it should happen at the same time as the new devolution deal takes effect. I doubt if the Tory front bench want anything else, as though I noticed that a Tory MP suggested the use of standing orders.
The main principle is that English issues are not decided by MPs from a devolved nation where the same issue is devolved and English MPs (and others) cannot vote.
That subject will then, quite simply, be "devolved" to English MPs / English + Welsh MPsUnion, not Disunion

As is often the case, on the matter of MPs having equal rights, Salmond is talking tosh. MPs will remain on an equal footing when discussing Union issues. But there is no reason why Scottish voters should have the advantage of being part of a decision on English Matters when the latter are denied that right for Scottish matters. If that were the case then the Scots would have more rights than other MPs.
On the second issue of having legislation to settle the matter I agree it is better done that way, and submitted to a vote.
It is funny that all of a sudden he likes the House of Lords.Union, not Disunion
