And at least they are still there listening to debates. Instead of clearing the benches like all the other parties. John Mann was talking about historical child abuse...
mandy rhodes ‏@holyroodmandy Say what you like about @theSNP new MPs but watching them listening intently to @JohnMannMP & that isn't just polite it's good politics.
mandy rhodes ‏@holyroodmandy 9pm & .@JohnMannMP congratulates all @theSNP MPs for still being in chamber given almost all other MPs have gone #QueensSpeech

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Don't see what the problem is; sure let's have legislation. So what, it should happen at the same time as the new devolution deal takes effect. I doubt if the Tory front bench want anything else, as though I noticed that a Tory MP suggested the use of standing orders.

The main principle is that English issues are not decided by MPs from a devolved nation where the same issue is devolved and English MPs (and others) cannot vote.

That subject will then, quite simply, be "devolved" to English MPs / English + Welsh MPs

It's about legislation not being debated, and MP's having the opportunities to state their views, through normal parliamentary channels, or the House of Lords, but instead, implementing serious constitutional changes through standing orders and slight of hand 'rule changes' ?
In his first contribution after returning as an MP, Salmond said the proposals would “breach the fundamental principle that all members of the house are equal”.
Raising a point of order, he urged the Speaker to investigate the consequences of the move and argued that if no action was taken, “any majority government could change standing orders to restrict the rights of any member without so much as a by your leave”.
Bercow said the point was legitimately made and that he would give it serious thought before replying.
I did say that Salmond knew the rules backwards. He always on the ball when it comes to rule books. And he isn't afraid to say so. The Tories haven't thought this one through, either that or they don't think EVEL will fly through normal channels. And if Labour have seemingly given up on opposing the Tories every whim, the SNP certainly haven't. Thank goodness.

Ps Leanne, I did like the 'jazz hands' suggestion on Twitter instead of clapping. Or the big SNP foam hands to muffle the sound.. :D

The PM said explicitly in the HoC that the English Vote thing would be debated.

I would assume that many MPs know the rules, if Samond has them backwards that's his problem.

Regarding the SNP attendance. Yes I noticed that they stated and I expect to see funny games with pairing.

They are, of course, subject to strict SNP toe-lining discipline.

Well they've been there all day again today. Bercow said he was extending his utmost respect for the solidarity they've shown being there for each and every one of their MP's maiden speeches so far.

And then there was a Trident safety debate...
ronnie cowan mp @ronniecowan · 2 hrs 2 hours ago There are 6 members of @SNP staff and 56 mps at Trident debate. Only 5 labour mps attended.
Has Westminster given up ? Or has it always been like this for important debates ? I must say, all the SNP MP's providing constant updates, tweets and occasional photos has been great. It's really opened Westminster up for a lot of us seeing how things work ( the good and the not so ). Hope the other parties all catch on soon...;)

EVEL is as EVEL does. I think the problem with the standing order thing is that it isn't really debated or scrutinised the way most things are. It's just a procedural 'rule change' that would be implemented via the 'Standing Order'. But, of course, EVEL isn't just a small 'rule change'. It would be a major change in the HOC.
There's a danger that if the 'rule change' takes place, that English MP's alone, get to decide, what constitutes an English only law, before it goes to the vote. I'm not sure that the power to decide that sort of thing, residing with just one geographical location of MP ( English ) is particularly wise.

Mabye they'll fudge a bit more round it, before deciding how to play it. Remember that the Conservatives don't have a majority in the House of Lords either ( but don't worry, there are no SNP one's ). ;)

    Brilliant, I love it! :rotfl:

I haven't been on Twitter much but I've just watched Joanna Cherrys maiden speech and she was excellent. I'm feeling very proud of the SNP MP's being there and supporting each other. The fact that they are actually spending quite a lot of time in parliament when it appears most others have lost interest and gone home will only bode well for all of us I'm sure.

It's rare to see Tory MP's on Twitter at all. Mabye they should listen and learn. Might up that vote from a crap 37% next time, by actually engaging with people under 50 or anyone that uses social media next time.
