Wow. Charity Shop Bargain

  • Ive had some amazin bargains in charity shops, Im in the north. Got a regatta fleece for 99p and too many other items to mention at a pound. The last two onesies I bought were a pound each. However I don't go into Oxfam, the ones nearest me are no longer anyway due to rates and I suspect competition from other cheaper charity shops. I can't actually remember the last time I bought something full price and not from a charity shop.

In my local town theres a Barnardos, cancer research, PDSA and a hospice shop. Some people do give expensive new with tags clothes to charity shops. I'm not really into designer labels, but Ive had jeans that retailed for 90 pounds for a pound.

Ive actually bought so many clothes second hand that when I go into a shop and see a skirt priced at 20 pounds I think, I could get so much for that price in my local charity shop.

In fact a bikini I bought to go on holiday with was the first item I havent bought second hand in around a year and a half.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Most of my clothes are secondhand. It's no different from eating in a restaurant where someone as used the same plate. So long as you wash everything its fine. Same with a secondhand house, or car etc.

Makes me laugh when people say they won't as don't they realise how many people have tried new clothes on?

I only buy new when I can't find it secondhand. My brother pays £50 plus for his shirts ..... Madness.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

If it wasn't for EBay I don't think I'd have any clothes, lol

It is quite shocking the amount of money people will pay for one item of clothing. £50 for one shirt, I mean !!!!!!..

The only things I always buy new are undies! I also try to get shoes "as new"/unworn too, where possible.
  • I had some Armani jeans from a charity shop about 15 years ago. Even if they were fake they were good quality and worth the money :)

I bought a handbag from a charity shop yesterday, I was looking for a particular size. I noticed that the shops whack up the price if it's a recognised brand. A similar bag with a Bench logo cost a tenner, and it wasn't as nice or as new as my unbranded bag. They also wanted £20 for a Kipling bag without the monkey.

Most of my home's furniture comes from second hand shops (except the beds). M&S sofa looked new for £100, another one not M&S, tables, chairs, mirrors, bookshelves. I often buy solid wooden furniture there for a song and then paint it white with chalk paint (ie no sanding or prepping) if it needs work to blend in.

Not sure Id ever buy new again!

A Principles tunic, pair of Next jeans and a lovely unusual pair of heels for the princely sum of £14 yesterday.

    Yay!

Yes, HBS, do that. It's a lovely feel-good thread and great to read about some of the bargains. :)

I think it's foolish to assume what appear to be bargains aren't. Some CS have silly prices others are too cheap. My D bought a gorgeous Liberty scarf which was in a 50p bin. All her friends said it was fake which I thought was unjustified. Took it to Liberty in London & they identified the pattern & confirmed it was genuine. Value about £160. Has she sold it, no. She bought it cos she loved it & wears it cos she loves it.
She got an as new Laura Ashley fur gilet in CS for £3. One exactly the same in County Casuals across the road £95. She reckons you have to just browse to find a bargain. My money is on jeans being genuine.
