Sorting Our Lives - Getting Organised & Having Family Adventures

I have started this diary in order to sort my life out. I married and pregnant. I have a baby boy on the way in a couple of months so really need to start getting things straight.

I have just under £3k on a hlfx credit card. It is on 0% but II am desperate to get this clear especially as I will be on maternity leave soon. It from our honeymoon last year, and although it was our only wedding debt. I feel it's hanging over my head.

I have been reading diaries for some time but the last few months I have been really spurred into action. So I wanted to put something down and lay a plan so that I have something to stick to. This is impt for not just the credit card but I would like to build up some savings again and create a good routine for everyday family life. I want my son to have memories and am already planning what we can do as a family such as days out etc..

I have the habit of doing loads and then letting things slide. Leaving things because I'm too scared to make a decision. DH favourite phrase is "ill do it tomorrow", so I need to make sure I keep on top of things. If I motivated then he follows and will be motivated. For example, the house goes from one extreme to the other in being tidy/untidy. So as I am due to finish work soon I want to get organised with that.

I guess in essence I need to set good ground rules now for when I have the baby.

Pay day yesterday so last night I paid off my credit card and DH credit card which had monthly online purchases that we made for the baby. I have decided that i will no longer use my credit card as I forget what I have put on there and get a big shock at the end of the month. I have took it out of my purse but won't cancel it just yet in case I have refunds from the baby's bits.

I also transferred money into our yearly bill pot. I had this a long time ago and decided to start it up again as it did really help with things like insurances and Xmas as well.

    Today's have done

    - Put two loads of washing out
    - Put another load of washing on
    - Cleared two bags of rubbish from garage
    - Tidy up kitchen
    - made a bacon sandwich for me and DH

    The plan for today is:

    - Take Car in to be looked at
    - Sort out baby car seat
    - Sort out dinner for tonight
    - Go to Farm for plants for the garden
    - Buy Ham
    - Tidy spare bedroom
    - Get fence stain

Going to get some ham tomorrow and bits for lunch on Monday. We have the family coming over to help us in the garden so will do a nice lunch spread to say thank you.:)

Tomorrow I want to sort out the baby's room, sort out the bottom of my wardrobe, clean the kitchen and bathroom and get some bits for monday lunch

Hi. I just wanted to say I'd be subscribing and also well done on getting things sorted now. When I was pregnant with my ds we had around the same level of debt from our honeymoon. My ds is now almost 2 and our debts have significantly increased due to us not sorting them first. We are now working on paying it all off, but wish we'd sorted it sooner.

Best of luck with the upcoming arrival of your little boy (best feeling in the world, ever) and best of luck with sorting your debts x

Hi Mrs Save thank you for popping by. Two is a lovely age. I can already see how easy it is to get carried away. Parcels keep arriving for baby. For such a small person they require lots of bits

im sitting in the bath and my back is killing. I didn't get the bathroom or the kitchen done today. :( I still did quite a lot, including bits that wasn't on the list, but I am noticing I'm struggling with energy and my body just aches.

The third trimester has really taken it out of me. I don't think it helps that I can't get comfortable in the night so I'm not really sleeping. I'm snapping at DH. I know I'm doing it but can't really help it.

I finished sorting out what I could in the spare bedroom. This took a lot longer than I thought. The rest is DH so will encourage (nag) him to do abit each night. I sorted out my wardrobe and the baby wardrobe. Got DH to empty all his stuff from one wardrobe in the baby's room and rehome it or get rid of it. My Dh is a hoarder and most of it was thrown/charity or eBay so this is a massive achievement :j. Still got to get Dh to do another wardrobe and think I have nearly finished sorting out all his stuff that is so impt but just collects dust:mad:

Did some tidying of the garage whilst Dh cut the grass and the usual washing.

Was meant to go to a family bbq tonight but it was called off ten minutes before we were due to leave. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to it. So ended up getting McD as we had nothing else else defrosted. So annoying as a complete waste of money and didn't even enjoy it. So lost out on my NSD:(:

Tomorrow I intend to get up early do the ironing and get the lunch bits as I'm not sleeping anyway.

    Evening

Spent all day yesterday in the garden and I'm so pleased with it. We stained the fences, planted new plants, weeding in front and back. We washed the decking down and made a start on staining that too. :T

I couldn't stand being on maternity leave over the summer and the garden being a mess. Im the house gardener so haven't really been able to get out there being pregnant. I told Dh what to do and where to put things. He seemed to really enjoy it. It makes me happy seeing all the beautiful flowers out there.

i did our monthly budget today. I have withdrawn our food money for the month so plan on using the envelope system. I find it so much easier to work in cash as oppose to forgetting about card purchases.

Cash is king and it's so true. The idea is not to use the overdraft.

Just sat down after dinner (pork chops, new potatoes and salad) so thougut I would catch up on some diaries. My feet are swollen from work today so trying to keep them up.

Our pensions statements arrived today and it's really highlighted that we need to do a full review of all our financies and stop wasting money.

    Morning Laura,

Just found your diary! Congratulations on the wedding and baby :D!!

When are you due? I was due DD1 in October but didn't leave work until the end of September so worked right through the summer. My feet used to swell so much, I would take my shoes off under my desk and not be able to get them back on! Id hobble to the car and then kick them straight off again!!! I really feel your pain.

Im assuming you've signed up for every freebie you can get for the baby, i.e. boots parenting club etc? I used to get so excited receiving vouchers through the post!!!

When are you planning on leaving work? xx

Need to start having some NSDs but the good news is we havent needed to do a weekly shop this week. We have just been making do:money:
