Take siblings into account when means testing for student loans
The amount a student can borrow only takes into account how much the parents earn but does not take into account if the parents have other dependent children whether at home or also at university.0 -
Scrap the current VED and just add lost tax revenue to fuel duty.
The current systems is a completely pointless blunt instrument that is an inefficient tax collection system. Scrap it and just add an additional 2 or 3p per litre to all fuel sales. Its entirely fair, everyone pays what they should and it also captures foreign drivers entering the UK.
It would also save the government money as there would be one less administrative system for tax collection to worry about.0 -
To help people take on jobs wherever available, and often to make them even worthwhile: transport to work costs should be tax deductible (at least for low income earners). [minimum and living wage means little unless cost of getting to work is taken into account]0

ALSO those using the roads more will effectively pay more and those who hardly use the road will pay less. In addition an only driver with more than one vehicle will only be contributing when driving one of the vehicles not paying for all of them despite only being able to drive one at a time.Scrap the current VED and just add lost tax revenue to fuel duty.

Helping overseas is a good thing but do we need DFID with all its civil servants, bureaucracy and buildings. Why not pay the money direct to DEC, which is reputable and accountable, and save by having no 'middle men'.0

Remove all restricted items (alcohol, tobacco) from general sale.
Sell these through Local Authority outlets.
Use profits to fund local services.
Require medical approval to be eligible to purchase with limits.
Decriminalise drugs and add to the offering.0 -
All online purchases should include a compulsory tiny insurance policy premium (built into base price) to cover return costs in the event of a guarantee claim. This way everyone pays the same rather than unlucky purchasers enduring additional costs when things go wrong with THEIR purchase whilst others get trouble-free item.0

Any service that can be purchased online e.g. Sky TV, must also be able to cancel directly online (i.e. you should not be made to telephone the provider in order to cancel - whereby they may aim to pressure buyer to keep the service).0
-
Stop the nonsense claims over job creation whereby a full-time job is made into 2x part-time and called 2 jobs. The national hours for all jobs should be added then averaged and quoted as a percentage of full-time work - then we can compare government claims over time.0

Tackle the compensation culture which hikes motor insurance costs for young people. Whiplash claims should require evidence beyond reasonable doubt. Or better still, get rid of financial compensation for non-financial loss completely.0
