My pup had 2 ticks in a week about 6 weeks ago. I changed her flea treatment to Advantix & haven't found any more. I still check her after every walk though.
Also agree with ignoring Babbawah..... it goes round the mse forums just to wind people up. Don't feed the troll!!SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

Thanks guys, I was getting a bit wound up last night. I did also read that they are going to be a lot more ticks around for some reason this year. Typical my dog picking them all up lol.0

I use a product called Dyna Mite which seems to make a big difference. I was at a doggy event camping over May Day and almost every dog but our 2 picked up ticks each day. We might have just been lucky I guess but a generous spray didn't do any harm.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I live a rural , moorland area with sheep, cattle, deer and wild pheasants in abundance.
My dogs can collect ticks from my garden as we have a wooded area at the top of the garden. The sheep are let out to graze the verges and on common grazing areas so we do live in tick central.
My neighbour's young son caught Lyme disease last year but he is fine after a course of antibiotics. Being in an area where ticks abound his mother is very aware of the symptoms and got prompt treatment.
My dog had a tick in late March this year. Usually, it is April before they emerge.
I have used a Scalibor collar for the last three years and thoroughly recommend them. I haven't found a tick on my dogs when using it. It does kill them on contact rather than Frontline , which needs the tick to bite to get affected.
One of my dogs got very distressed when i put a spot-on him so avoid them.
A collar lasts six months, which I find sufficient as i don't use them in the winter.
At £13 for a collar, it is a fraction of the cost of spot-ons.
Collars should be removed if the dog goes swimming as the insecticide can affect fish.
If fleas a re also a poblem there is a collar available on prescription which covers both fleas and ticks.
Scalibor collars are available without a prescription and I do Google search for the cheapest supplier.0 -
Thanks sheramber, I have ordered a collar and will be trying it out, as you say spot ons are expensive and they are not working on my dog.0

IME, ticks only thrive in very narrow environmental conditions, and your home is in their top10 list of desirable habitats.
Are you sure he's not re-infecting himself off your carpets?
Babbawah is a Troll, plain & simple!A.10 - Female ticks of the species that usually pose an infection risk to people and pets (Ixodes ricinus & Ixodes hexagonus) lay their eggs in soil and plant debris. This keeps the eggs moist enough to develop and hatch into tiny larvae. The larvae then need to feed on a host and moult, a process which also requires a relatively high level of humidity. Most homes are too dry for these ticks to survive in, and unsuitable for a female tick to lay her eggs and for egg development.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

One species of tick called Ixodes canisuga (the British dog or fox tick) can survive in less humid environments and lay its eggs in cracks and crevices in ceilings and walls. Infestations can occur in kennels and catteries, and bites occur more commonly in working dogs.0 -
If there is anyone stumbling upon this thread because they might have found a tick on their animal, then the answers you seek aren't here.
This is primarily a classic example of guerilla marketing tactics to promote an ineffective, very expensive, VERY profitable yet almost useless treatment.
I would strongly suggest to keep Googling and move on from here !0 -

Just for a laugh...
Where can infestations occur? Oh yeah.... don't see any mention of auntie Doris's centrally heated lounge where they can't survive. If there is anyone stumbling upon this thread because they might have found a tick on their animal, then the answers you seek aren't here.

Like I said you're nothing but a Troll, possibly with an agenda against MSE or some of the people posting on it...Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0
