Nationwide SO SLOW

2.5 weeks and still waiting on a decision.
DIP fine, few extra docs requested ("flat" not just flat number) and tax overview.
Broker chasing and keeps being told "we will action case by end of the day". ThAt was Friday.
This is unfair and I am panicking now

How is it unfair? Nationwide are one of the largest lenders, they will be dealing with multiple cases (including mine) at the same time.
See the link for their mortgage timescales.

It's not unfair but my recent experience highlighted that they can put things in the wrong work queue. My advice would be to ring them direct, be very polite and enquiring and establish what stage they are at. You need your application number, probably starts M5 and ring them between 8am-6pm on 0800 4643000. I found them very helpful. Become a polite pest. Twice things ended up in the wrong queue for me but I found daily phoning pushed the application through the process quickly. The people are lovely to deal with , all of them. Until your application has been reviewed by the underwriters at the very end of the process then you just don't know. I was told I had an offer and the paperwork would be issued to me the follow day, the underwriters changed the decision and rejected me. Ring daily and be very nice, they will tell you0

Thank you both for taking time to write. I'm being totally irrational I know do this makes me feel less anxious. I keep reading about how some people went from application to offer in 7 days and then panic.
I received an email from my broker who says they simply haven't got around to checking the extra few documents they requested. They will do on Monday. Everything else is fine he tells me.
Thank you again for the advice0 -
Well for some the underwriting will be simple, for others more complicated. As you had to provide more documents, this will have delayed things. It also depends whether they felt able to decide fully themselves or referred it to the head office underwriters.
I did read that there was a backlog too. I'm at the DIP stage, initially told 8 hours, a week later told within another week. Next weekend is bank holiday, so hopefully I'll know before hand0 -
Twelve working days is hardly unusual for a lender.
Sometimes they get busy. Sometimes the background information they get it not suitable.

You're right AMN. Just wish they would talk me through where we are at, and how we are doing. Assures me in ine sentence emails "everything is fine" and they plan to "action your case by the end of the day". I ask what this means and nothing. Does action mean sign it off with a tick or look through it in detail, I asked, and no reply,
I understand why they requested the tax overviews as this is apparently a new requirement for the SE part of my earnings. Also the "flat 504" rather than "504" utility bill. That's all they requested.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest. It all seems such a long period when it's about yourself, and as you rightly say 12 working days is not long.
I think we will have a glass of Pimms!0 -
The most common issue is simply poor communication.I am a Mortgage Broker

Absolutely. This is all new to me. As a pal pointed out yesterday, your case is probably straight forward and no big deal to your broker so he's not going to be too communicative as he doesn't much to tell you.
As she in fact said last night:
"It's in the system, they've asked for a Tax overview and a utility bill, valuation was fine, other do a they haven't queries so calm down you maniac!"0 -
Your friend seems to be giving you a more accurate assessment than your broker.I am a Mortgage Broker

Our friends often make sense of the blindingly obvious, when we can't see the wood for the trees I always think...0
