I sent my MP an email on Saturday with all the deatails and not even heard from my MP, how long does it take them to get in touch or look into matters.

This matter is really crazy, it's soon gonna be five months they have had my application, I have done everything from constantly contacting the passport office, making a compliant, getting a councillor involved now informing an MP, it's like the passport office do not have anyone to answer to.

Depends who it is - I'm not aware of them having any legal requirement to reply to you at all! A good MP probably should have sent an acknowledgement email by now but I know when I contacted mine a long time ago they just got into working out how to solve my issue and didn't contact me until they'd got the answer.

You could always try ringing them.

  • Write to the Director General at HMPO. I believe his name is Mark Thomson. Passport office email addresses are formatted as firstname.lastname@hmpo.gsi.gov.uk

Emails to CEOs/Directors often get a better response, as they will have a Private Office team working for them, who won't want you spamming the head honcho's inbox.

That said, they obviously have concerns about your application (whether justified or not).

Who will contact the department who is dealing with the application and they will tell him its undergoing checks. There will be a good reason for it being delayed - a standard renewal takes less than a fortnight

Thank you for all the tips, advice and views. I have contact the passport office again today by phone and the staff have told me on the examiners office, that the application is on their managers desk, and their manager is not in now till next week, so that is when it will be looked at.

I am going to find out what my MP is doing about all the information that I have already told them.

I also understand that checks have to be done, but the whole process is taking so long and the staff do not keep you up to date, or even explain when an application is with one department what the step is next depending on results, they know I am clearly worried. I just have no idea how long this going to take and I have never heard of this happening to other people, I just don't understand why they are so concern with my application.

    RE reply from MP

I contacted mine at the weekend on a different matter, she has contacted me twice and the matter is resolved.

    I was pleasantly surprised

Yes me to, I sent that email on Saturday and I sent another with a further update on Monday, I also copied in a councillor to both emails and I texted her, I have had no responses to any of my correspondence.

Looks like I'm going to have to fight this by myself, great.
