As it happens, I was recently talking with someone who suffered a three-year delay in the issue of a passport. In that case the problem was political (a person who had upset a very powerful group), so these things can happen.

Hopefully not to me, I'm just your average person who goes to work and then home, everyone who I have spoke to is so surprised at how long this is taking.

In any case, your MP should be made aware of the trouble you are having, since the MPs are ultimately responsible for the performance of the various branches of government.

Totally agree with you on this, and I am going to make them aware, it's disgusting the way I have been treated.

your applications obviously flagged up as suspicious for whatever reasons

there may not be a method to bypass this ??

not heard of anyones passport getting delayed like this before , maybe they have brought in addition checks if it flags up ??

The only reason I have had is, Sometimes an application gets choosen at random for additional checks, this is what the call centre told me, but the call centre do not really know what happens in the office. So I am left in limbo really to the reason why.

Which passport office ? My DD posted hers last Tuesday got it back renewed on Monday this week. Is it a renewal or first passport?

This is a renewal application, which should of taken three weeks, it is the Liverpool office that the application is stuck with.

Well it is and has got to me the full situation, it is causing me a lot of stress and worry. It has made me feel like my money is going to be wasted and I am not going on holiday, so very stressful time for me.

I am writing the letter over the weekend as I want to include evidence in the email to the MP so he can totally see where I am coming from, and so he has all the information about my matter to.

I will update with all responses I have.

My sole point was if you are genuinely panicking about not being able to go on holiday, you shouldn't be adding unnecessary delays to it!

You sound like you're taking offence from that - it's completely unintended. I personally just thought getting it done ASAP would help the large amounts of stress and worry you have.

I am genuinely worried and stressed out about the whole situation and waiting for my passport to arrive .

I am not offended by anything you have said to me, I just wanted to make it clear on how much I have been contacting the passport office, the matter has been a priority to me.

When I first contacted my MP's office it was a counsellor who contacted me back and she tried her best to get further information which did not work, then with having no responses from the passport office on my matter, I was then just following the guidance and advice the passport office and counsellor Had said to me about waiting, until I came on the website and spoke to people such as yourself, who in what they have said have made sense with trying to get the ball rolling with an MP and contacting them directly.

So thank you for your advice it's has been really helpful to me, and I will definitely let you know what the passport office or the MP has to say to me .

My DD sent hers to Liverpool so I suggest it's not a case of a big backlog...

If this is a renewal then there is more to this than what is being suggested.

How did the Passport Office get the wrong date of birth? It is already in the Passport sent back to be renewed! And what is the address issue? Passports do not have addresses in them and your renewal application will (assuming you have completed it correctly) have your current address where the new Passport and any supporting documents will be returned to. You may have move numerous times since your previous Passport was issued. Indeed since my last renewal I had moved 3 times.

So, how did they know they had the wrong address? This all seems as if there is a bit more we are not being told about. I know the Passport Office can be slow on occasions, but I believe that the OP is, perhaps, being economical with the truth if this is a simple renewal as suggested.

It is suppose to be a simple renewal, the details they had wrong on their system was my date of birth which they have now corrected so the examiners tell me. In regards to my address a call centre member of staff asked me to confirm my address and after I did so, they said to me oh we have your address as an Scotland address, which I have never lived there, Any time I have called after this, the address issue has not been said to me again.

This is just a simple renewal and for whatever reason the office are doing extra checks which they will not confirm with my the details of how long I will have to wait.

No I do not think it is a backlog issue, they are doing a lot of checks on my application for reasons I have no idea about or why.
