I renewed with them in September but didn't receive conformation by email or post. I went on holiday immediately after renewing and forgot to check when I got home. Yesterday I checked my September bank statement and a payment had been taken by eurorescue and not Autoaid. I phoned them today and apparently they now only send email conformation which is automated and was failing regularly. Not sure if it is still a problem. Email conformation was sent immediately. The eurorescue payment was Autoaid.

The guy on the phone was helpful and competent.

I tried this https://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/Renewals.aspx with my old and new document numbers and it didn't work with either. They should either fix it or remove it.

You'll have to contact them again. Hopefully speaking to someone that will do what they say. If they have taken £42 from your credit card, they should have a record of having taken it and be sending out an email or putting something in the post to confirm you're covered. They have an email address and online contact form, if you don't feel like ringing again.

Yeah but if its this much hassle getting confirmation of membership, what will it be like getting breakdown assistance and/or payment for it? Why I didn't renew once RCI took over; awful reputation.

So "Martin" needs to get this company re-assessed and not be promoting them until the new takeover company has proved themselves.

I'm still very tempted to give them a go. £42 for me and my wife seems too good to be true - which is why I probably shouldn't switch to them! I've only called out breakdown assistance 3 times in 30 years. All three times, they were pretty faultless - RAC twice and GEM once. RAC recovering me from France were amazing!!

I've used breakdown assistance once in 30 years for a recovery costing £150. 30 years x £42 = £1260. I should go without but then I'd be dealing with sods law.

The "takeover company" isn't new to the insurance forum.

See this long running thread regarding them:

(It has been pointed out that there is an "*" after the link that Martin uses when promoting them!)

The asterisk just tells us there's an affiliated link - which there still is - presumably.

However the AutoAid section is now very misleading in saying:

"AutoAid's been our top pick for a few years and MoneySavers who use it almost universally report good feedback"

...as it refers to AutoAid when it was a pure AutoAid.

If they have been bought out by a new company that appears to have universally bad feedback, the MSE opinion should reflect that and not still say what it did pre-buy out.

    (That's why I mention the *)

  • Made a big mistake in signing up with these guys.

Also a £15 administration charge for cancelling even the first 14 days after signing up.

    Such a scam. Avoid.

So what was your mistake signing up? Bad experience or simple change of mind?
