AutoAid Car Breakdown Discussion

My crankiest car, a 27 year old Rover, stranded me just off the M1 a couple of weeks ago, suspected failed fuel pump. Straight through to call centre, confirmed location, they confirmed local recovery contacted, promised to keep in touch. Put phone down, instant text from recovery firm, followed by phone call 5 mins later. Arrived within 30 minutes, recovered home (will fix it myself, eventually...) and back 30 minutes later, with a phone call from AutoAid along the way to check in with me. Totally stress-free. Thoroughly recommended.0

I note that AutoAid has gone up in price and my renewal is due next month. For me though with 3 cars in the family - 1 over 20 years old and it covers me and husband driving any car I think it is still good value.
Used it once this year when I was daft enough to leave the internal lights on and I had a flat battery. Yes I did have leads but couldn't find anyone at 8 a.m in a cul de sac in Manchester where I was staying on a Sunday morning who appeared to be up!! AutoAid were out in 15 mins so I was thrilled as I could then head my way to a conference I was attending.
Similar for me jump in price but for the service offered for 2 vehicles its still good value0 -
Price does seem to be creeping up but I've used it twice in the past year and both times the service was quick and efficient.2kWp Solar PV - 10*200W Kioto, SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF, SSE facing, some shading in winter, 37° pitch, installed Jun-2011, inverter replaced Sep-2017 AND Feb-2022.0

Ok just signed up for them the website states £53.99 for new customers but invoice states £54.99. Hum.
Website has an oddity in that after it took payment it went straight back to the new customer page again i.e. wanted all my details and card payment etc all over again. Strange.
I ignored that checked my emails had to fish it out of the junk mail folder but looks like its gone through. Compared to my previous breakdown GEM its cheap they wanted £96 for renewal and according to martin AA would want £169. Ouch. And considering the last time I needed help from them they said they were too busy to come out(!) they can stuff it frankly.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -
Mrs zag had to use them the other day, took about an hour to come (typical in SWLondon/Surrey borders).
No problems but they advised the battery had gone flat too quickly. We've replaced that now because I don't think we can call them back if it happens again.
As we share two cars, not sure that there's any cover better and we're not seeing any urgent need to look.
Will probably renew with them next year as well. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Just renewed a few days ago but missed the special offer of £5 off if you sign up via MSE. I called them out twice this year (after at least 5 years with no call outs) and the service was good. The breakdown companies they used kept me in touch via text and either got me going quickly or took the car to a repairer. About the only slight niggle that I had was a bit of a wait for the phone to be answered on one of the callouts but the phone operators were always helpful.0

I waited two hours for a recovery vehicle to come out and then was told I would have to wait another hour. Not a service to use if you are in a hurry.0

My daughter had a blow out on a busy section of the M1 at night, the day before Christmas eve 2019. She'd had an AutoAid policy (recommended by MSE) for a couple of years but had never used it. After making the car as safe as possible on the hard shoulder she phoned me and I advised her to leave her car, get over the crash barrier and phone AutoAid. I expected her to be in for a long wait but was pleasantly surprised when they advised her that a repair vehicle would be with her in 40 minutes. They kept her informed during her wait, gave her a description of the call out vehicle and the repair man phoned to let her know how long he would be. She was back on the road with the spare tyre fitted just over an hour after making the initial call which I think is very good service.
Reading other comments, if they can't repair your vehicle, it seems to be important to get them to tow you home (or to a repair centre close to home) rather than a repairer close to the breakdown site.0 -
Service is going to vary as they use local companies.
I’m not sure I understand the last comment but these days most companies will not leave you car somewhere out of hours. They need to hand it over to someone. Out of hours this generally means you go home and then call them out the next morning.0 -
Seriously considering signing up to this but a little concerned as it is shown as 'Highly recommended ' but has 33% 1 star on reviews?
