VWs are generally good. There is an element of risk with any used car and you are confirming my prejudices about Vauxhalls.

A Skoda might also suit. My Octavia was a great car, lasted me 8 years. There were things that needed replacing, but they were few and far between until it got quite old. The MPG wasn't great, but it was the vRS.

Sorry to sound rude but if you my post properly I said I I have £2k plus the value of my car as PX. So in total I hAve £4k to spend. I'm willing to push to 5k if the car is reliable and good to drive

No sorry, I want a car that's a little bigger than the Micra.

Thanks for the advice, but I'd rather not drive a 90's banger. I want a car that's around 5 years old

Why, because your 5-year old Astra's worked out so well up to now?

You said your 90s Civic was 'much better'.

The old Civic was a lot better to drive, was more reliable and fuel efficient. It was an old car and shown its age from the interior and outside, lots of dents. The wheel caps were missing too and paint was faded. It was passed down to my younger brother anyway when I bought my Astra. Call me superficial but I don't want to be seen driving an old banger.
For my budget I still want a car that's up to 5 years old, a better drive than the Astra, a little more power and more fuel efficient

but the things you mention are not excessive or unusual on any car of that age.

The only thing you've listed that's different to my 2004 Vectra, is the electrical issues.
Really, does not say a lot for Vauxhall.

My previous Civic which I had from new and my next door neighbour bought off me is now twelve years old and still has it's original exhaust, the only thing that has been replaced are cam belt and tyres, it has had regular services and never failed an MOT.

2007 isn't that old for a car and my Astra hasn't got high miles. Everyone else I know is gob smacked when I tell them my bills. I know it isn't normal to pay that much for any car because my Civic didn't have any of the problems my Astra did, no repairs whatsoever except routine maintenance. and that was going 130k plus miles.

Never again would I touch a Vauxhall

Well with your vague recollection of a host of, "faults" (I've never had a radiator that, "broke") I'm sure people will follow your straw poll of one and never touch a Vauxhall again.
Perhaps if you had a friendly, local, recommended garage to talk through the issues, you may well have a better running car and have more in your pockets.

I don't know how detailed I can be on the repairs? I thought i went into enough detail. There was a crack in the radiator and the coolant leaked. I thought that would be obvious. Any who that's besides the point.

All I want is some use advice as to which car I can purchase next. I have already given my budget and criteria and no I'm not buying an old banger.
