I've had some success with a number of claims, unfortunately these were made via a PPI company so fees were due, but on the whole I was OK with that. Failures: As PPI nears the end of claims period, I've been told that Marks & Spencer cannot trace a store (credit) card I held with them in the late 80s/early 90s. Despite the case being referred to a third party and regular updates from the Financial Ombudsman, they were apparently unable to trace my account, so this claim has now been closed as of yesterday. I suspect it may be because the card was taken out in the days before everyone used the internet to make applications, and the paper records might have been lost. C'est la vie. There are two outstanding claims which I cannot make headway on, however, people here may have had some success though. Has anyone here had success with a claim for their Access card? I know Access has not been around for many years, and it's possible I never had PPI on it anyway, but I draw blank when I look for who to contact about this card. I've been directed to both Lloyds and Barclays, who claim it's nothing to do with them. Also Bank of Ireland, with whom I had a mortgage in the mid 1990s, can't find a way to trace anything with them. Any advice welcomed. Good luck to everyone with outstanding claims, and thanks to both the Financial Ombudsman and Resolver for their help.

It's not due to the internet, but data protection regulations. They cannot hold on to your data for longer than needed.

Access were a financial processor which Mastercard took over but the card processes is irrelevant as they didn't sell you PPI, you complain to the card issuer (the bank who gave you the card).

DPA laws say to destroy data when it's no longer needed, typically after 6 years from account closure, some hold on for longer but a mortgage in the 90s, unless paid off relatively recently is likely to be long since deleted. Also unless Bank of Ireland staff sold you it (rather than say a broker organising it), they have no liability anyway.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    PPI Party Pooper
    Barclays Bank PPI success

After battling and rejection letters since 2014 I have finally had my claim settled. Initially I requested info from them as to which loans from the mid 90s which I had PPI on, they gave me details of four loans. I submitted claims and had them rejected as they claimed to have no details. I continued to pursue via ombudsman and again without success. I then found an old account statement which mentioned PPI just once. I forwarded this to the ombudsman and they re-opened the case. I have just received a detailed letter from the bank with the breakdown of my award on a number of loans and had a payout of over £8.5k after tax deductions. Because I knew I had PPI on at least two loans but had no proof I was not prepared to let it go. My persistence paid off and they must have eventually dug deep into their systems and found details of these loans.- If you are sure you had PPI, keep on researching, it may take a long time (over 4 years for me!)........ don't give up!!

While it's great that you found some documentary proof that you had PPI, I doubt the wisdom of telling anybody without such proof not to give up.
You were fortunate, others won't be so if they've already been told there are no records and they have none themselves...

    Well done on your success:T
  • What were you reclaiming: PPI
Who was the provider: GE money Bhs storecard
How much did you get back: £1200.awaiting payment
    Used the FREE RESOLVER TOOL
was dismissed by Santander so sent complaint to Financial Ombudsman.
Started claim 3rd April 2018, had 2 letters from santander denying my claim, contacted Financial Ombudsman, they asked for more info and upheld my claim. My PPI was added to my Staff Storecard, I was told I had no option if I wanted to have my staff discount I had to have the storecard and accept the PPI. FOS investigated this and found that I was never eligible to actually claim using the PPI as if I left the company my final wage would have the remaining storecard balance taken off.
TBH I didn't realise this was even in the contract, I just knew that when I was issued with the card my HR manager said we had to accept PPI.
I am happy with the result, just hope the payment doesn't take forever. Glad I persevered and and so appreciative of this forum. :j
