PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Well, had it in my head that I definitely had PPI on a £3k loan I took out in 1996ish. Thought it was too far back but then heard about someone who had claimed on something from mid nineties, so went onto NatWest/RBS website, downloaded the form, filled out as much detail as I could remember, and sent it off on a Friday. Following Tuesday, had a text message saying they'd posted their findings...I assumed with such a quick response, they were saying "No, sorry, nothing to see here, please move on." I was away from home for work and my wife phoned to say the letter said they'd "upheld my complaint" and would be in touch with their findings.
Fast forward last weekend. We were away all weekend...came back to FIVE separate letters from RBS. "Bloody duplicates" I thought to myself.
Opened them one by one. They'd found a consolidated loan chain...four out of five of which had PPI attached. (I'd have sworn blind I only had PPI on the original!!). The first three were various totals that came to about £2.3k. "Woop" said I. The last one I opened was for PPI on a big consolidation loan my wife and I took out after a few years of financial irresponsibility...and we've since had 14 years of being sensible and are debt free apart from mortgage and a car. This one with PPI & interest came to £7K!!!!!
So, on filling out a form on a bit of whim, we're >£9k better off. Yay!! And no claims companies taking a great big chunk of it.
So, if you're thinking about it, download the bloody forms, fill them out and go for it. Happy Christmas to you all and best of luck.0 -
^ and this is why doing it yourself is best, £9k in the bank for Christmas rather than losing 1/3 of it for a firm to post your letter

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I got 2 lots of PPI back 18 months ago.
Received a letter last week from Barclaycard, they miscalculated my interest so sent me a cheque for £1057!04.06.12 no debt:beer:
Now house deposit saving £24,000 and rising:T thanks to 2x Barclays PPI successes0 -
I used a third party to handle my PPI misselling claims, the reason being that over the time span involved, I must have had eight or nine credit cards, most of which I no longer had the details of, and I had no idea where to start. I knew I wouldn't be progressing it myself, so the fact that they took 35% of any successful claim didn't bother me. So far ( and it is still ongoing, they are tackling one at a time!) they have recovered over £2k from three providers, including MBNA and Halifax (Can't remember the third one). They have earned about £750, but I have received £1400+ that I wouldn't have had!
So, although there is a hefty fee to use a claims recovery company, they do take away all the hassle, and if the alternative is not to claim, because you don't recall details , or just can't be bothered, I would recommend them.0 -
Made complaint over telephone to santander end of Nov for mis sold ppi on old abbey national loan. Received 3.2k in bank account few days ago. Filled standard complaint form in and sent to Canada Square for egg loans on 24th Dec and letter received yesterday that upholding complaint with offer of just over 3k. All for the cost of a call 2 stamps and I did carry out dsar on egg records so a further £ 10 spent. Really happy. Just waiting to hear from barclaycard and Yorkshire bank who incidentally contacted me. Please don't put it off make your enquiries yourself it's very easy especially with the advice on this website :j:j:T0

What a load of brown smelly stuff. Claims companies do nothing that you cannot do yourself and quicker. They have no access to your personal details. They do not know who you had PPI with. They use the same free of charge complaints process that you would use if you put your own complaint in.

Did you have to fill in forms with your personal details and complaint reasons?
This is the same as complaining yourself.
Did you have to wait eight weeks ( or perhaps more) while the bank considered your complaint?
This is the same as complaining yourself.
Did the bank pay all of the redress to you directly?
This is the same as complaining yourself.
Did the CMC charge you for this "service"?
This is DEFINITELY NOT the same as complaining yourself.
Sorry, but you paid £750 for virtually nothing.0 -
To do yourself use the MSE site Resolver couldnt be easier to submit and I have received payments within 2 months for 3 different accounts:j:j

Unless you're using Santander apparently given the recent post by someone trying to use it and getting a failed submission due to the contact details on Resolver being incorrect
Just to reiterate, with Resolver your data (after it is made anonymous it should be noted) is sold to companies as part of a consultancy service to improve complaints handling. Doing it directly to the bank avoids thisSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
