  • Hi

Just wondering if anyone has any contact details for re-claiming ppi on MBNA credit cards? We cannot find any of our statements but my hubby thinks we were paying this on cards we had about 10 years ago when we both were in employment with good sickness, redundancy benefits. The only reference numbers I have are on my online banking from when we paid the minimum monthly payments. Both cards were paid off approx 4-5 years ago.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi guys

Very quick response from Santander here with an offer received today,

    Basics are

17th July or thereabouts emailed them, got an auto response,
21st July emailed them again , auto response.
Ended up on Sunday 7th i emailed the ceo@santander.co.uk,
Monday 8th received an email and a phone call saying it was being dealt with and something would be in the post Tuesday
Tuesday 9th received email saying they had tried to ring to confim post but got answer phone
Wednesday 10th Received letter with offer in post saying upon acceptance it would be here within 2 weeks,

So from Ceo to acceptance letter actually only took 4 days to receive.

    Run down of offer is:
A Total monthly premiums paid until 5/4/2005 £246.75
    PPI Rebate adjustment £589.45
Statutory interest on the 2 above until 31st August 2011 £416.18

    Offer being £1252.38

Then went onto say," when you canclled your single premium ppi policy early you received a less than pro rata redunf, resulting in a larger settlement figure, The calculations therefore include a PPI rebate adjustment representing the different between the pro rate figure and the ine that was applied to your loan at the time.

Does this sound ok by all you carol vorderman wannabe's?:rotfl:

So success so far have been

Halifax credit card ppi money received
Santander loan which was originally A&L offer
    Black Horse offer
Barclays is ongoing i have to send the forms back for this one and given us till September

For those that think " oh i dont know"
All of the above i have done completely through email so not even cost me the price of a stamp. I only had account numbers and a few bits of paper here and there, my OH didn't know if he had even paid these loans off or not and i didnt even have to fight my case just said simply " he was self employed"

I know everyone says it but help from you all, Di, Ianc, Marksman, Amers, and anyone else,,,, and others who post what they have done really really does make a difference, so don't just say " aww shucks its ok" pat yourself on the back and smile as you have made a big big difference in peoples lives with the time you give us all in claiming back these monies we have basically been robbed of

    much love to all xxx

    :rotfl::j:beer: WELL DONE :beer::j:rotfl:

  • Very many thanks to tifosi and offcumden for their very helpful replies, and reassurance that it's not just me that thinks Capital One is low-balling us with their offer ! I think you're probably right offcumden that we won't get anywhere unless we go to the FOS, but I think it's probably worth an email to the ceo/head of complaints etc at Capital One first, if there's a chance we won't have to hang on for months ?

    Here's hoping !

    Hi Di

It maybe a good idea to try tracking the account numbers, but if it comes to it, then the ref numbers may be fine to use.;)

  • Hello Cazzieblueeyes – well done on getting this very old refund! – I hope you don’t mind me asking – was this loan still current, or what paperwork did you have, to get them to payout ?

(My husband had several old loans that we don’t have any paperwork for at all, and he doesn’t remember if any of them had PPI on them or not...but after recently finding out that a credit card had PPI added to it after he definitely declined it, I don’t put anything past banks !)

    Hiya

You could call into the local bank and speak to the branch manager/staff and if you still bank with them (you're hubby) just give them details of the bank account number and they may find details of all loan/credit cards account on checking the systems.

However, what I did was email my old bank (lloyds) as I no longer bank with them, I gave them the bank account number and asked if they could email me with all loan accounts taken with and without PPI, they got back within a few days and went right back to the mid 90's of my very first loans.
Hopefully it will be the case for you too.

But, another way is to check old banking statements, or if you bank online and still with the same bank now, this may allow you to go back to about 2002, the loan account numbers is normally shown next to the monthly loan repayment.

The other way would be to request a Subject Access Request (SAR) give the bank account number (if all loan/credit cards accounts were with them), by writing the bank account number, the data they send should include details of all loans, credit cards and so on, going back at least the last 6 years, some will even go beyond that.
There is a one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order you need to enclose for this request, and they have 40 calendar days to comply.
There is a full SAR letter template below if you want to use that one, good luck and hope this helped.

  • Does anyone know how the time limits work on reclaiming PPI ? We’ve just noticed on his credit report that my husband had a loan that was settled in November 2005 with Forthright Finance, and he can’t remember if it had PPI or not, and we don’t have any paperwork. As it’s just about to hit the 6 years, and it seems unlikely they’ll give us any information without a SAR request, which can take 40 days, we’re cutting it very fine. Would we just have to get the initial complaint form into the finance company within the 6 years, or would the complaint have to go to the Ombudsman within the 6 years if necessary ?

    Many thanks !

    Hi

Just also left a post above.;)

Don't worry about the 6 years, you can make them aware you've only just became aware of the PPI mis selling, and many of us have made successful reclaims even from the 90's, infact someone posted today I think it was they were successful from a reclaim - from an account from the 70's.;)

So basically what you do is make the complaint by sending the the reclaim questionnaire once completed to the ones who set up and sold you the account, complaints or head office, make sure you keep a copy, they normally have 8 weeks to make a decision, if they need more time they will let you know.

Once you received a final response, they will let you know if its final or not, but if so they will then give you details on how to make the complaint to the FOS with leaflet details.
From here - you have 6 months as from the date on the final decision letter to complain to the FOS.

Step 3 below, the reclaiming questionnaire you send to make a complaint/reclaim, good luck.

  • Bless you Di, you star - thanks so much for such helpful (and speedy!) responses - I wrote my 2nd message before I saw your response to my first ! :D

The only info we have on the old loans/credit cards etc are on a credit report - which just gives some dates and the last 4 digits of the reference numbers.....hubby has online banking but the statements only go back to 2009, and the couple of loans stiil on since then unfortunately don't give any account nos. When you mentioned enquiring at Lloyds, and getting info on your loans/credit cards etc, and whether they included PPI or not, did you mean loans actually borrowed from Lloyds, or loans from other organisations that were processed through your Lloyds current account ? Same with the SAR requests ? (I hope you know what I mean :)).

Maybe I'm now getting over-cynical in my old age, but I'm guessing most banks/finance cos won't be prepared to tell us whether old loans and cards had PPI or not unless forced to through a SAR request ? ;)

If anyones interested, you can find a calculator to work out how much interest you have paid for each PPI premium HERE

One thing to consider is the order in which your particular credit card agreement applies payments

There was an article on MSE some time ago with regard to this, in as much as it appeared most credit cards allowed the bank to apply payments to the lowest interest items first, so for example:

Balance of £5000, consisting of £3500 purchases, £1000 cash withdrawals and £500 balance transfers

    Interest rates:

    0% Balance transfer
    17% purchases
    19.5% cash withdrawals

Any payment made by debtor applied in the following order:

    Balance transfer
    Purchases
    Withdrawal

So, the highest interest item is paid off last

I have been through several of my credit card agreements but cannot find one that states where in the order of payment PPI premiums sit (or for that matter the rate at which interest will be charged upon them)

This has only just got me to think IF they charge say, the "purchases" interest rate on PPI premiums, how do they justify that if the PPI premiums are not shown as interest bearing within the agreement (as from what I can see, you would not readily place them under either the "purchases", "balance transfers" or "cash withdrawals" titles?)

Congratulations to all who have got their PPI back!
