I took out my Nationwide mortgage with my husband 8 years ago. We were told at the time that we had to take out their own PPI if we wanted insurance as it was not available to buy elsewhere.

After a year and a half of taking out the mortgage, I was made redundant and claimed on the PPI for about 8 months I think.

Can I still reclaim the other 7 years worth of payments I've made? I've just found cheaper MPPI with another company and saved £30/month! It's not widely known that you can buy MPPI elsewhere, unlike car and home insurance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It clearly states in Martin's article that you cannot claim if you succesfully claimed on your PPI.

Whist doing research last night I came across a report that LTSB had been fined £1.3 million, by the FOS, in Sept. 03 for mis-selling financial products. This does relate to Scottish Widows products which were sold by LTSB.

And then write your brief reclaim tale: Was a little sceptical of this but thought what have we got to lose. My partner and I have 6 claims in with Lloyds at the moment for PPI on loans, credit cards plus bank charges. However sent the first letter off against this loan (from 2002) and received a reply 10 days later saying that they cant determine either way due to lack of paperwork so as a goodwill gesture have refunded the PPI (less a rebate as the loan was increased 2 years later) so £535.30 plus interest! Success!!!

Hi how long after you received your letter did you get your money as I had my letter on Saturday last and desperately need the money has car died on Monday and it looks like its terminal so needs replacing.

    Cheers

Sorry Lg - you're right I should have posted there
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!
  • Hi

I need help. I bought some furniture from DFS over a year ago. I have made about 5 payments to date. However I have noticed after checking my bank statements my monthly payment is higher than I thought.
They have added on £10/month for ASU, which I clearly did not ask for at the time.

Can I cancel this policy or get a refund?
  • Hi folks,

after reading all of the advice on the website I sent my letter to Norton Finance regarding an £8,000 loan me and my husband took out in 2005 and paid off in 2006.

We were told that we had to have the PPI and at the time needed the money and couldn't really argue.

The PPI was added to the loan as a single lump sum at the beginning and thus when we paid the loan off 12 months later, we paid paid back a lot more than the orignal £8,000.

I have received a letter from Norton Finance today stating that they will not refund me any money as they are unsure as to why I am trying to claim and that I have not stated a valid reason.

I used the template from the webiste with the wording about the policy being mis-sold as we were sold a single premium policy but did not see it through to the end.

They have asked for a response to explain why I am claiming and I am not sure of what to respond. It clearly states in the letter the reasons for the claim and I don't know how to word it differently.

Am I fighting a losing battle???

    Thanks:confused:

Hi everyone just to let you know what stage i'm at. Posted the original thread on the 24th Oct. I phoned the bank again on the 29th and still got a reply that nobody at yet was dealing with my complaint. Yesterday was the 3rd so it was the end of their own self imposed date line. If you check letters sent to you the wording is very exact in my case the wording stated that i should receive a reply no later than the 2nd of Nov.

When i phoned yesterday i spoke to the halifax customer care team (not bad guys at all). I got told that a letter had been issued however it was dated the 2nd of November. Since it was the weekend i ask for the content of the letter and was told it went along the lines due to unforseeable differculties yarda yarda yarda...

This is the important part i asked the lady in question to examine the complaint to see whom had take responsability for the complaint and they told me although several person had looked/accessed the file nobody had taken on the case. The letter in this case and the last two previous case have been generic letters sent out pretty much like if you get an automated bank charge letter.

Its at this point you become completely in the right as halifax have no excuse's for their lack of progress or lack of response. Normally at this point would suggest running straight to the FSA however knowing their current caseload and it possibly taking 3 months to process tried a different approach.

Phoned up halifax complaints department and gave them until the 7th to find out exactly what was going on with my complaint. i.e who was running with it, what stage was it at, current process remaining. We've the threat that not only would i take the case to the FSA but also to court to ensure that they received the maximum fine for unproper business practices. Will post another update on the 7th to let you know how it is going

    Yippee - successful claim
What were you reclaiming: PPI on a Loan
Who was the provider: Lloyds TSB
How much did you get back: "£535.30 plus any interest accured"
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: First letter

Success!!! :T
Awaiting responses on the others but have a feeling they will fight these as there is associated paperwork saying that information about PPI was received. Going to try to Ombudsman route though.

As mentioned I was a little sceptical about all this, but for the price of one stamp, got a result - so there's nothing to lose - GO FOR IT!!

One down, 5 more to go .............
