PPI Reclaiming discussion

Hello,
I took out Barclaycard Car Finiance in May 2004, a loan over 5 years. I paid the balance of this loan off in June 2007.
I have dug out the paperwork for the loan but can not tell if I had PPI or not (know that might sound a bit silly but it just doesn't say). It does say I was not covered for GAP Insurance, is this the same as PPI?
Need some advice please - should still write to them on the off change that I did have PPI but didn't realise - would there be any harm in trying?
Has anyone had any success stories with Car Finiance Loans?
Thanks
J :rolleyes:0 -
i have 2 claims with welcome. 1 for a cash loan and 1 for a car finance. i paid the car off in march but the cash loan is still being paid and in arrears. thay have basically told me to get lost for the cash one so it has gone to the fos but i havent heard anything about the other one. sent a reminder to them about a week ago saying their time is up in 20 days.0

Hi. Does anyone have any success stories relating to Natwest? The only comments I have read in this forum about Natwest relate to PPI on loans, rather than Card Protection, and they don't seem to have positive outcomes. I want to reclaim my exorbitant card protection charges but am not encouraged by comments on here. Also, I recently wrote to Natwest about late payment charges (using template letter and incl. £10 cheque, as advised on here) and they haven't even bothered to reply yet! Can you be successful against Natwest?0

I sent a letter last week to Paragon and has this morning received a response. TwinsMum I think it must have been identical to yours since it said that the loan I took out was brokered by Central Capital and therefore I need to contact Central Capital directly.
As seems to be the case from the posts that I have read, I don't appear to have all my documents. In fact I don't remember dealing with anyone except from Paragon, therefore I don't have any details for Central Capital. I have done a quick search on Google and have come up with the following address:
UK Correspondence Address:
Central Capital
2nd Floor, Edward Hyde Building
38 Clarendon Road
Watford
Hertfordshire
WD17 1JJ
I will now duplicate the letter that I originally sent to Paragon to this address, but before I send it, can anyone let me know whether or not this is the correct address?
Thanks in advance
Hi
That is the address I sent my claim to as I am faced with the same situation as yourself. They responded within 3 days telling me they are looking in to it and will come back to me.
I await their response.0 -
Hello to one and all. I am totally new to this so apologies if lose the plot a little.
Firstly I think everyone who contributes on this site are all wonderful people for offering their help and advice.
I am at loggerheads at the moment dealing with the dreaded 'First Plus'.
We took a loan out in Sept 04 with PPI worth over £13K. (Stupid I know but needs must and all that). We paid it off in December last year.
Having found this wonderful website I started questioning whether the PPI had been mis-sold. It was a single premium policy, it ran out after just 5 years although the loan term was 18 years (how does that make sense???) and to add insult to injury my husband has a pre-existing medical condition that meant we wouldn't have been able to claim (quality policy). I have now got the FOS dealing with this claim for us. have many other of you out there in Martin Lewis Land had the same problems and have you had successful outcomes. I am waiting for their 'Final Response' letter that is due any day so I will of course keep you all posted, but any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you and sorry for waffling on.0 -
Hello all,
i took out finance on double glazing provided by staybrite back in 1999 and this included PPI added as a lump sum to the 'flexible' loan. i wasn't informed it was added as the salesman filled out the contract and then presented it for me to sign (i was a lot more innocent back then...). once we received our first statement i realised and called the company - i remember it well as i was mad about it. they basically told me there was nothing they could do.
anyway, took the advice in the article and wrote to staybrite, they have responded telling me that the salesman has now left, and that there procedures would have meant he couldn't possibly have done what i've described. they have have stated that GE Money would have sent confirmations (which they did, thats when i called to cancel it but was told i couldnt) and have suggested i contact GE Money or the ombudsman.
firstly should i follow up with a letter to GE Money? if so should it be the same letter i sent to staybrite, and should i enclose staybrites reply.
finally should i mention my attempt to cancel? it was by phone.
thanks in advance

Many of you are asking "can I reclaim questions" below. Let me give a generic answer.
At the article is new for the site this means that unlike Bank Charges reclaiming they're aren't many experienced reclaimers on hand to help yet (hopefully that'll change soon when people who have been through the process come back to help others)
My querie :
On the success stories page, mostly coming up are :
Alliance & Leicester
HSBC
LloydsTSB
Over here, in discussions, are loads of unanswered posts - I have 5 windows open now ?? - no wonder the site gets overloaded, and I still havnt found any answers to barclays.
"As the article is new" would it not be possible to divide it into more sub-sections ?
¬ A & L
¬ Barclays
¬ Halifax
¬ HSBC
¬ Misc_Lenders_/storecards
etc etc............
Ref eg : This thread has been viewed 71993 times, I wouldnt fancy coming back in here in a couple of weeks, and having to wade through 300 + pages ?
Only a suggestion, so please don't shout at me.
So, Mr W has had loans from Woolwich, who are now Barclays, he was "advised" that if he didn't take out PPI, he wouldn't get the loan. Has anyone taken them on yet ?
Mrs_W~~ Martin Lewis ROCKS ~~ :T0 -

The same as you I am afraid and they have told me no chance but I am now going through the FO as I am not paying them for 25 years what I can only use for 5 years No way, No chance, Never, Not doing it, there I think I have made myself clear I will fight this all the way, mine was a joint loan which is paid for through my account with my money, yet only my husband is covered for redundancy and accident and illness I have to go one step further and die before I can make a claim (confused I am):mad:Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.0
