Can you make a new thread "levels of pain"
Lisa lynch legacy (thank you another brave lady amongst those here) helps me get up everyday and made me realise it could be so much worse
If you haven't watched or read the The c-word - do, certainly wish I'd known of it sooner, get some prospective please, before it's to late.0 -
I'm sorry, I know you weren't replying to me, but I love this! There are some very good treatments available for RA, it's just finding the right one for each person. The NHS rules are such that other treatment options have to be tried before the 'gold standard' treatment can be approved. That's where I am currently. Hopefully once I do get approval I will be able to return to work, and indeed life!
It would be impossible to fake this condition, the results of your blood tests determine if you're in remission or not. This is the evidence used by the DWP to award PIP.
Yes, it would be impossible to fake RD. I don't know what the best treatments for it are either. She is now on methotrexate (sp?) Nifedipine (sp?) Alendronic Acid...and probably a few more medications. She calls the Metho her 'wonder drug' because it has given her back her life. She's had one relapse when they had to take her off the metho because her liver function tests showed her levels were very high.
My brother is on Infliximab and he too leads a very full life including running half-marathons, regular Gym user. His Crohn's Disease is not something that can be faked either. He has had surgeries to help but it's the treatment he's getting that keeps him 'normal'
Everyone is an individual and the severity of their conditions will vary.
Neither of them have ever claimed DLA or PIP.
I wish you the very best. You will get there. x0 -
Yes, it would be impossible to fake RD.
'Impossible to fake' is unfortunately not the case for all diseases.
I have a friend who had complex regional pain syndrome - it appeared utterly psychosomatic - until her arm started swelling up badly and she started to lose motor control.
There is no physical test for the pain I sometimes get when I overexert myself physically, emotionally, or mentally - and have a severe relapse of chronic fatigue.
This is an overall pain, much like I have severely overstrained the muscles in my legs and arms the previous day.
Indeed, practically all of the symptoms of CFS could be faked, and there is no decent blood test that is useful on an individual basis.
Phantom limb pain can similarly be disabling - though has no basis in 'reality'.0 -

The type of treatment I'm waiting for is called a biologic, infliximub is one, but there are several others. I'm on methotrexate, as well as another two (sulfasalazine and planqenil). Unfortunately none of these have had any impact on my condition. Methotrexate is wonderful when it does work apparently. I will get there, I'll find my wonder drug!! I'm very fortunate to have been diagnosed in this day and age as the drugs really slow down the disease, and stop further joint damage.
That's wonderful that they live full lives, I can't wait to join them and I can't wait for the day that I call the PIP Helpline and tell them I no longer need financial help!0 -

Thanks, so on that basis, pain that is described on the claim form, may be real or imagined. Additionally the level of pain claimed maybe factually true or a complete exaggeration.
As you say, there is no way anybody could prove or disprove what the level of pain is as claimed.
Taking that one step further and if pain is a major factor in a claim, it could well be the case that an actor/ess may well be awarded a benefit yet a truly honest claimant will not simply because they fail to put over the pain that they suffer on the claim from.
That really gives me the confidence in knowing that fakers are as likely if not more likely to get an award over the ordinary guy in the street who genuinely does have major problems.
Seems to me that people should read up what the expected/perceived level of pain is and put that down instead of trying to describe what actually is the level of pain.0 -
my mum also take oral morphine, along with other pain killers.
i don't see the use of morphine itself as a reason to be entitled to benefit ( my mum actually claims nothing, although she would likely be entitled to higher AA.
I doubt it very much. I used to get HRM & MRC DLA. On transfer to PIP, they decided that I had no care needs or mobility issues.0 -
im not prepared to publish my mothers care needs on here, but as an ex employee of DIAL, who completed DLA and AA forms daily, i can assure you that her multiple needs would qualify her0

As you say, you helped others claim benefits, some that you knew were doing so illegally but you continued to conspire with them as it was 'your job to'.
On the other hand I respect the fact that the DWP and their decision makers are best placed to make those decisions and as such, I accept them at face value.0 -

On the other hand I respect the fact that the DWP and their decision makers are best placed to make those decisions and as such, I accept them at face value. Hence I did not lodge an application for a MR or appeal to a Tribunal. I have faith in the system, more so than agencies that are willing to be complicit in providing specialist help in making false benefit claims. Word of warning therefore that DIAL should be avoided at all costs if you don't want a DWP investigation to take place.0 -

the vast majority if claims that i helped with were deserved and more than met the criteria.
it was because of the small amount of others that i left,
so get your facts straight. i did not 'conspire' with anyone and a few times asked a colleague to complete forms if they wished, because i was not happy to do so0
